I don't really remember the scripture about divorcing but Jesus did say you can under certain reasons. So my question is if you commit adultery, you can divorce your spouse (the one who cheated). But now it doesn't say only by physcial touch, so even looking at another/lusting after them you can put them away. Do you agree?

The books are about a substance called "Dust" that the magesterium (church) sees as the source of origional sin that settles on people once their daemon takes on a permanent form. So, they try to "save" the children by cutting away their daemons, which of course leaves them as mindless drones (sheeple) . Lyra, the main character in the book, through out her journey discovers that Dust is not evil but the finest particles of the Universe that comes to those that mature and learn to reason (know good from evil) .

Thus from the way I understand it, Eating the apple wasn't a bad thing,....it was actually a very good thing.

The author of the books is an atheist and it helps to read the books from that point of view to understand exactly what is being said. I think the books helps point out the flaws with "origional sin" type of thinking and the perverted power the "magisterium" can have over people.

Does anyone agree? Thoughts?

and thank you Terra.

First of all I am Christian but I am a thinking Christian, I believe God gave me a mind of my own to look at the world and question, and He rejoices in my search for the truth so please no comments about how I am not a "true Christian".

Lets all get on the same page here, can we agree that Heaven has no clock meaning a moment in heaven is equal to 100 years on earth. With that being said lets start with Evolution, I watched a very good documentary called "Friends of God" on HBO and in the movie children were being taught that Evolution never happened, as a human with more than a 1st grade education I know this is ignorant. The Bible says that God created heaven and earth in 6 days but seeing as we have already established that heaven has no clock could the 6 days really be millions of years? And through those millions of years God created dinosaurs, and all of the things that Christians have come to discredit?

There is more so please do not answer yet.

But, if we were all just a cosmic accident and are all here by chance and when we die nothing happens then whats the point of being here. If you really stop an think about it that would'nt make any type of sense. I mean if thats the case why go to work, why not just run around all day doing whatever you want ( some people do lol) and not have to suffer any back lash. Im not saying people have to believe in God thats your choice but, just think about it

Matthew 18:9 is one that I see totally misinterpreted. It is often rediculed by non-believers.What it is actually talking about is a church member being cast out Matthew 18:15-17, not someones actual eye.

"And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire." Matthew 18:9

"For the body is not one member, but many.
If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.'' 1 Corinthians 12:14-18

In one part of the New Testament, Jesus says that a married person who looks at someone (in a sexual or erotic way) of the opposite sex "hath already committed adultery in [his or her] heart." (1)

In another part of the New Testament, a woman is caught red-handed in an adulterous affair. Jesus then condones her crime, forbids the Pharisees from punishing her, and let her go. (2)

Clearly, Jesus (in the first example) harshly condemned adultery. If you read the rest of proceeding verses, he even suggested self-mutilation to prevent people from committing adultery with their eyes. But in the second example, Jesus clearly condoned adultery and let the adulterous person off the hook.

I am a Christian and I believe that Jesus is my savior, but can someone please explain to me this obvious contradiction?

How is believing in the Christian god different from believing in other religion's dieties of the past? How is believing in a celestial being fifferent from beleiving in any other mythical creature? Why does this particular God seem to require no real proof of its existence?

In a previous question, most believers admitted that if they had not experienced divine revelation, the other logical/scientific arguments wouldn't convince them of God's existence.

Do you agree? Or is there other evidence that you feel would convince any unbiased observer?

Here are the verses:

Romans 7:21-25
"So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin."

Simple question today:
Sin is what seperates us from a holy God......and Christ has bridged the gap between God & man. But isn't it great to know that even the apostle Paul struggled with sin on a daily basis just like we do?

Thank God for our advocate, Jesus Christ.

I don't think you can do all three because they seem mutually exclusive.
