You just "accepted" Christ is God and that he died for you FIRST, without proof of such a thing.

Then it was only AFTER you did that, you got special abilities to understand the bible to support your new position and beliefs?

I am asking because of answers given by Christians saying you have to accept Jesus FIRST and only then you get to understand the bible and of course, your understanding would be supportive of what you have accepted.

This is very different to how other religions operate. Most require you to fully investigate, spiritually search for the path
of enlightenment and after you do, you need to fully understand all the doctrines etc before you make a committment.

So now my question is, what made you take that blind leap of faith to accept Jesus in the first place?

I am asking just to try to understand where you guys are coming from.

Why don't you sell everything that you own and give it all to the poor?

Anyone who considers themselves to be a christian (and not a hypocrite) should do what Jesus said to do, right?

No convaluted arguements against what Jesus said please. Just follow his instructions if you really are a christian :)

In your opinion,.....

Is it based on religion? Politics? Big business? Some other reason?

I know there are treaties and such, but if you think it is deeper than that I REALLY want to hear from you and I ask for a respectful exchange of dialogue. After a recent conversation I had with a friend I am most interested to poll your thoughts on this topic.

Peace.

Romney's religion may not be exactly the same as that of America's Christian Right.

But you've got to admit that his values are very, very similar to theirs.

Will they support Romney in his quest for the GOP nomination?

And will they vote for him in the general election?

I've met many an altruistic atheist. They don't have a religious text telling them how to act, so how do they justify their altruistic behavior? Many theists justify their altruism by saying that their actions will be rewarded with eternal bliss.

Why do atheists act altruistically in the absence of a promised reward?

“I am prepared to fight and die for my cause. I, as a natural selector, will eliminate all who I see unfit, disgraces of human race and failures of natural selection,”

~posting by the Finland student who killed 8 people and then himself...

I was waiting to hear what was going on in this child's mind. Surprise, surpise...natural selection...survival of the fittest, void of God and a respect for life including his own.

When are we going to admit that the absence of any faith in God + a lack of respect for human life a la natural selection + extreme social pressure in a CHILD is a destructive MIX?

You may say that you survived atheism and YOU are all well and good, but is it about YOU? or is it about our greater society as a whole? You may think that belief in God is silly, but its far less malevolent to the emotional health and wellbeing of children than telling an 8 year old at bedtime..."that's life honey...youre going to be worm food in 70yrs anyway...sweet dreams"..

Why do you have to blindly accept FIRST and then get indoctrinated to believe in the bible is the 100% inerrant word of God?

Why can't you not just read and study it with a rational mind and using your God given intellect and discernment see the evidence for yourself, then decide to join?

Why is some kind of emotionally charged experience and surrender needed?

I am asking because in response to a question I had about the inerrancy of the bible here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmsPJ3jZcEm.kDyrnZYT0Fvd7BR.;_ylv=3?qid=20071108083806AAnjB2t

a person called preacherswife responded:

"....you must first become a Child of God until this happens the Bible will always be a mystery to you but if you would only read Roman 10:9-13 and do what it says in these verses then you will be surprised at how much you can understand and realize that the Bible (KJV) is Truly the Word of God."

But why would I just "accept" something without examining it first?

The Bible doesn't mention events occuring outsside a small region of the world we call the middle east or the holy land. Because the Bible makes no mention of God helping, guiding or working with people in any other part of the world do you think God simply ignored their suffering and their prayers?

I've heard the words "subjective" and "objective" flung around a lot lately, but people don't really know what they mean. Do you?

A "subjective" truth is based on the subject involved.
Example: "The Beatles are great" is a subjective truth to me because I like them. But, you may not, and that is true too.

An "objective" truth is based on the object involved.
Example: "A 'foot' is 12 inches long" is an objective truth. Whether you believe it or not does not matter, because it is true.

This is an important oncept to grasp. Subjectivism has infected the minds of many people these days.

God is an objective truth. Whether or not you believe in God does not alter the fact that God exists.

I've read poll after poll showing that a majority of American voters would not vote for an atheist and I'd like to know why. Being an atheist does not mean that you're immoral or don't care about people. It doesn't make you more likely to kill or steal, anymore than being religious makes you less likely to do so. It just means that you aren't convinced that there is a god. The vast majority of atheists are highly educated, secular humanists who cherish and value of human life above all and subscribe to high standards of moral conduct. Why should that make a peson unworthy of holding public office just because they don't share a widespread belief in magic?

The fact is that if the other sub-cults had the power to change the Bible from the Catholic version they woulda. What the Jewish prophets wrote has nothing to do with the Bible you hold in your hand. The Jewish prophets and apostles wrote that Jesus was the son of god alright. But not the god "you" think.
Until the issue of the murder of Abel is legally addressed, and you admit collective responsibility, as a decendant of Cain, man will continue to die.
That is what "forgive me of my sin" means. Nothing else.
Please spare me of your sub-versions. I have heard them all and then some.
