In your opinion,.....

Is it based on religion? Politics? Big business? Some other reason?

I know there are treaties and such, but if you think it is deeper than that I REALLY want to hear from you and I ask for a respectful exchange of dialogue. After a recent conversation I had with a friend I am most interested to poll your thoughts on this topic.

Peace.

It's in part due to the number of zionist jews in the US.
There's more in New York than Jerusalem.
There's about double the number of jews in the Congress compared to the general population. Jews own and operate a majority of the media so there is sometimes influence there, sometimes not.
US society is quick to label anyone not in support as anti-semitic. A large number of Christians are very much in support of Judaism.
There's a number of exports from Israel into the US, electronics and firearms. There's quite a lot of exports from the US into Israel, electronics like cell phones and such.
There's the long standing history of US "enemies" being primarily Muslim or Muslim friendly nations (which may be in part due to US support for Israel)
Israel is seen as a military ally as well, a place for US forces to be stationed when needed for quick deployment.
The US favors nations with a democratic process in their government.

Yes, it's politics, and big business, and religion. It's not all bad, and it's not all good.

This is not my opinion, these are proven facts. What does big business have to do with it? The country that we do big business with is China.

America strongly supports Israel ecause they are one of the strongest allies of these great U.S.A.

They are the only Democratic country in the Middle East that share the same values as we do. Human rights, freedom of speech, dress, and family values.

They also share high level intelligence reports with our Homeland Security. Whether it is in Pakistan, Iran, or any other terrorist states.

If you truly want to know the answer, go to the library and take out some history books, and read up on it. Only then will you get the true facts..

There are several reasons. None of them are, as someone has incorrectly stated, because Jews 'control' the media. Only a fool would think that.

America supports Israel because:

1) Israel is the only secular democracy in the entire Middle East. Presumably none of you are anti democracy?

2)Israel has always stood alone while being constantly attacked by not only terrorists but the hostile Arab states who are her neighbours. No less than SEVEN Arab countries attacked Israel in May 1948 and Israel, alone, managed to survive. A miracle? Possibly.

3) Israel represents 0.01 % of the Middle East. Compare this with the far larger, far richer Arab countries around her.

4) America wants and needs a democratic ally in the Middle East; one that will fight terrorism with passion and courage. That's what Israel does, it's what she has always done.

5) America gives more money to Iraq than she does to Israel. She also has given billions to Germany and Saudi Arabia. Why is nobody questioning this, instead of always asking about American help and support for Israel???

6) Would you rather that America supported Iran, where women are still routinely stoned to death if believed to commit adultery?

Or Saudi Arabia, where only Islam is allowed and where people are ARRESTED for possessing a Christian bible?

Israel is a true democracy, so why shouldn't America back her up?

Did you know that Israel has never attacked without provacation? The U.N. is a worthless and lying over-rated piece of garbage! What the Communists do not control, the athiests and the Liberals do! Therefore we have over 2 million people killed in Sudan along with torture and abuse with the most unhuman tortures! But the U.N. said it was an internal affair? But look at the Nato war and the 64k that were killed! Did they not support NATO in attacking? Sure, they were not jews that did this or Muslim, but those WHO CALLED THEMSELVES CHRISTIANS! Obviously they were not Christian, but they were attacked because they had been doing wrong to the Muslim in their Country! So what difference should it ever make, unless a group is killing others? NONE! We support Israel because they want and have supported peace. They have never started a war but have been attacked, many times! The foolish idiots at the U.N. tell Israel to open the Gaza, where they have been attacked by many rockets and mortars! The U.N. needs leadership and not bigotry! We are to think that 2 million is less than 64000? Where is NATO or the U.N. in the conflict in Sudan? It shows where the lying U.N. is! Facts show they want some to be killed, not matter how meek they are! It surely is fear and fear destroys the one in it! France was afraid to support the war! Why, fear! They are an insult to the brave in WWII! They need a real leader that does not fear his own shadow! Israel is supported because they are doing no wrong-- just trying to live this life! Some Muslims object to their existence and want to kill all of them! Those that rule in Gaza are from that same group. Americans do not walk in fear! We cannot be made afraid and will not surcuum to terror! So we support the underdog, that does not lie and is not afraid! All nations should do this, but they fear! Some do not and are supporting Israel, knowing that Israel has tried all to support peace... it is not peace when you are bombed and mortared in your communitee! God bless. Earl

Because Israel is viewed as being a democracy in the Middle East and part of the USA's strategic defense system to preserve peace in the Mediterrean area/sealanes area.

Well, there are strategic and political reasons, but then there is also the Evangelical support.

But the fondness of Israel among Evangelicals is just weird -- it isn't for political or strategic reasons. I think it's that they see in Israel what they wish the United States were; just as Israel is a militaristic Jewish state, they wish the United States were a militaristic Christian state.

I think historically it stems from the altruistic gesture of voting in the UN to create the state of Israel. (I don't know what in the UN's charter allows them to create states.) There was international guilt following the Holocaust and the US is all for noble causes and underdogs, so it supported the Jews in Israel.

The Jewish lobby has a lot to do with it as well.

Anyone knowing the future as explained in the Bible would recognize that Israel will hold a defining position during the end of civilization.

Because the media is owned by Jews, plus Jewish people disproportionately fund our politicians, including Bush.

Moreover, who do you think is closer (that is, in relationship) to America? Jews or Muslims? Obviously Jews are, so America is more inclined to support Jewish interests.

They are a democracy, first and foremost we must back that,

but how they took the land for a race of people was odd, whereas they have room in the usa to stay freely ?, why take the land for Israel, and also the UK took Afghanistan, it use to be a part of Iran, :)
