I did not make this statement. I read it in a book and wondered what people thought of it, so there is no need for name calling here.

That is basically a paraphrase of one of the core beliefs of Satanism.

And it's not completely without merit.

The question is, to what extent does one have to tolerate intolerance?

Did the people behind the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act tolerate racial discrimination? No, they finally said enough is enough, we won't put up with your racially intolerant views.

If intolerance is harming people, imo there's no automatic free pass that says you have to tolerate the intolerance. That's just setting yourself and others up to be doormats.

And there's no reason that you can't express disapproval of intolerance in any case.

The other answers already posted seem a little odd to me.

I think this is a fairly reasonable statement. If a particular person is intolerant of other peoples' views, why should those people be tolerant of his views?

This statement is kind of like the statement, "What goes around, comes around."

I would say something nasty, but I'll try and be tolerant of your adolescent statement.
It's like saying on the seeing deserve sight or only those that show love deserve love.

Tolerance is better served to the intolerant. They need it more. and maybe it will help them learn to be tolerant.

tolerance and respect are thorny issues
most people would say everyone deserves respect/tolerance..in a perfect world if everybody thought that way then that would work, but it's not a perfect world and it doesn't work that way.
You get what you give is how i put it.
ppl are going to be rude bitchy disrespectful or whatever negative behavior i give it back to them (after i get pushed past my tolerance level)
the funny thing is they always get upset when they get treated like that, so then i say How do you think it makes people feel when YOU treat them like that?

I agree. Why do we feel the need to let so many muslim immigrants into this country? There is something pernicious about a religion that demands and gets tolerance for its followers when they are in the minority, but which has no respect for the rights of others when they are in the majority.

It sounds unloving to me. Everyone deserves acceptance and tolerance.

confident, by way of fact they are wimps for they understand that Conservative Christians won't hunt them down or kill them. Why else could they wander in and make a mockery of church centers? they are jealous too by way of fact it became referred to to them that Conservative Christians provide extra of their own time and funds to help the undesirable than do liberals. If somebody became to make a similar sort of assaults on enable say Muslims you be they be outraged.

TOTALLY incorrect! It depends on whether you're a self serving person or all about the good of the whole.

"We should give people what they need, not what they deserve"

(This excludes those who are a danger to others)
I want to be treated this way.
