Because some people are afraid of anyone who believes differently than they do. Until everyone realizes that belief is a personal choice, most will not get along.

My GUESS is that many people don't condone the taking of more than one wife. My neighbor is Mormon and he and his family are really good people. However, it is the negative actions of a few that give the whole lot a bad name. For instance, ten years ago, most of the people of the world would have jumped at the chance to be an American. Unfortunately right now, Americans now rate at the bottom of the barrel because of the idiotic actions of a few.

Sigh, I wish we could. Ever since the Church was established it has endured persecution. Joseph Smith was tarred and feathered, we were murdered and robbed and driven from many places.
Even when we settled in Utah we were still being pushed by those who meant us harm. Only recently has the US Government apologised for the treatment of the Early pioneers.
Nowadays, it tends to be. "Woo! Mormonism (i hate that term) is false, heres a site that can prove it! www.ihatemormons.com/ireallyhatemormons"

Yeah, yeah, go ahead and persecute me. I'm used to it. Simply because of my faith, I have been denied promotions (yes, even in the US Army) and fired from a job. I have been handed plenty of pamphlets intended to reorient me. (And you say that the Mormons have hard-core door-to-door tactics? Hmmm.)
What actually hurts is when I am told, that despite the wonderful relationship that I have with my savior Jesus Christ (sometimes he is ALL that I have to comfort me) that I could not possibly be a Christian. But, I don't say anything. Why fight with dumb people--contention is a tool of the devil.
Being mocked doesn't change my beliefs, tho. My testimony has been hard-won over the last 25 years, and it's here to stay.

Didn't know they could tap-dance. I know they have that big ol' fancy choir and they wear nice suits, but tap-dancing for Jesus must be a new thing, like when they're singing hymns. *tap tap tappity tap-tap-tap tappa tappity tappity tap* "Amaaazing graaace, how sweeeet the sound...." *tappity tappity tap-tap* "That saaaved a wretch like MEEEE!" *tap-tap tappa tap TAP*

I think it is because, of all the crazy religions out there, they just take it a step further than most.

You are correct.
The Mormons tend to bring allot of it on themselves with their aggressive brand of door to door marketing though.
I have no problem with magazine salesmen, until they decide to try and sell me a magazine subscription on my doorstep early on a Saturday morning, while I am nursing a mean hangover and killer breath.

I suppose they're persecuted by being unconventional. However, I don't like them as they constantly doorstep you, trying to convert you and will not take no for an answer.
