I am wondering what the Biblical stance (NOT XIAN) is on enlightening one's mind? What quotes can you give me?

I am utterly baffled by the utter ignorance some have of either science or their own religion.

We have raised both of our children as Christians. We have told them it's ok to not be perfect, but we always believed in God. I'm crushed. How can I prove to him he's wrong?

I may be blindly missing it, but nowhere in the Bible have I found any support for a representative democracy with three branches of government.

This model seems entirely based on secular principles, but I'm willing to be proved wrong. Please enlighten me where this form of government stems from Biblical standards.

I think the "queenofyackagain" is dying...on her way out.
Seems that after an episode of ZillaFever, followed by RoamFever I have contracted a vile leech that wishes to suck the very life of me. It has followed me to various questions and I have recieved many notices from Dr Yamster that makes me feel as my time is running short.
So if I am really dying I would like to say:
The QueenofYack will never die.
In your dreams her terror lies.
Kill me once, kill me twice.
But I am stuck to you, like your kid's head lice.
Now the Yamster lays me down to sleep.
But my soul, I tell ya, he will never keep.

So what would your last words be?
And do you think I have any poetic skills at all?

Why do some Fundie Christians get all hyped up about books/movies such as Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia?

And yes, I have seen people get upset about the Chronicles of Narnia. Harry Potter, perhaps, but come on, its just a plush lion and some bad animation (well, before the new one came out)

"It’s the same old devil with a new face," - Rev. George Bender, who made Harry’s exploits part of the bonfire at a book-burning party he threw in rural Pennsylvania.

Burning books?! Remind you of something?

http://www.theraider.net/films/crusade/g...

And yes, it is a scene from Indiana Jones.

But why moan about "witchcraft" or "talking lions" when the authors of these books are devout Christians, and the books have very strong Christian themes, particularly the cruxifiction of Jesus and the demise of Satan?

I know its not really important, but why do some people get agitated and start BURNING BOOKS?

There are 613 laws total and nearly early 100 Laws revolved around Temple, Tabernacle worship. There is no Temple in Jerusalem thus these laws CAN NOT BE OBSERVED. Another good majority of those laws revolved around the cultures of that time (over 4000 years ago). How many of you have trouble coveting over your neighbors Ox or Donkey? Thank God for Jesus Christ.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a christian. I just don't understand why this is done. Aren't we supposed to confess our sins to God and ask him for forgiveness through the bloodshed of his son Jesus Christ? Wouldn't the act of hearing and forgiving sins be playing God?

The growing commercialism of Christianity - is this why the government is so opposed to atheists; because atheism can’t be used as easily to market consumables?

This was inspired by Mich K’s answer here…thanks Mich!

if we evolved out of monkeys, then y is it tht monkeys and apes DO NOT have distinct looks?

wat i mean is tht if u take all the monkeys in the world, they all look the same. however, if u take all the humans in the world, each and every one of them have different faces..long nose, fat nose, thin nose, small ears big ears, fat lips skinny lips, etc.

y is this so? shouldnt all humans have the same looks if the theory of evolution is valid?

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Colossians 2:16

The person or place of focus on the holiday is what is important, not the day or date in particular.

So when the floods came Noah and the people on the Ark heard people outside screaming and yelling for help, pounding on the ark to get in, but there screams went un-answered because they had been warned and laughed at GOD's word, his wrath and Noah.

Isn't Free Will choosing to do nothing for a person or to do for a person? so who's moral law on this would you do your own Noah wasn't helping those people because of his own Free Will not to or to do so, he was following only GOD's commandment.

The 4th commandment states that no-one shall work on the sabbath. (Exodus 20:8-9)

Exodus 31:15 goes on to say that anyone working on the sabbath must be put to death.

For people who say they take the bible literally - do you stand by this? Do you support killing everyone who works on the sabbath?
