Why do some Fundie Christians get all hyped up about books/movies such as Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia?

And yes, I have seen people get upset about the Chronicles of Narnia. Harry Potter, perhaps, but come on, its just a plush lion and some bad animation (well, before the new one came out)

"It’s the same old devil with a new face," - Rev. George Bender, who made Harry’s exploits part of the bonfire at a book-burning party he threw in rural Pennsylvania.

Burning books?! Remind you of something?

And yes, it is a scene from Indiana Jones.

But why moan about "witchcraft" or "talking lions" when the authors of these books are devout Christians, and the books have very strong Christian themes, particularly the cruxifiction of Jesus and the demise of Satan?

I know its not really important, but why do some people get agitated and start BURNING BOOKS?

TuberRoot: I wasn't implying that Christians were all the same... Personally, I've read HP and don't see "the devil" in Potter...

This question is particularly about Fundementalists who burn books. And if you are a book-burning fundie, then, well, have a nice day...

Again

Perfectly Imperfect: I AM a Christian. This question is directed at book-burning fundies.

Why didn't you stop to read the question?

Wow, do some people not bother to actually read anything?

I specifically said SOME fundies, and mentioned the book-burning ones.

And if you are a book-burning fundie, please leave immediately.

I had a friend that's a huge Harry Potter fan and seen all the movies tell me that it was wrong for me to go see A Series of Unfortunate Events as it was too 'dark'. lol Now where's the logic, there?

Some people have waaay too much time on their hands, though.

My thoughts, as a long time "born again, spirit filled" Christian is that many Christians are still immature in their faith of God. They are often still under the Law of Moses instead of God's grace and so they apply that Law to others especially those who are outside the "church".

They look for faults of others so that they can condemn them and thus feel better about their own failings.

If they wish to fight evil in our society, they ought to do it as a citizen of the state who has good reason to believe that the evil is going to hurt other citizens....and not do it as a church member who wants to change society by judgement. God alone is the judge of the world.

1 Cor 5:9-13

9 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people- 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.

12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you."
(from New International Version)

Many get carried away and this is on all sides. The left and the right. God gave us a brain to think and come to good conclusions. Being judgmental is being as bad as those who say these things. All have a right to there opinions even if they are wrong and stupid. Peace

I hate this.
Respect for others and for art.
If you don't like it DON'T READ IT, DON'T WATCH IT, DON'T LOOK AT IT.
Just stop trying to ruin other people's lives and influence them.
Personally I think Hugh Grant movies are a crime against humanity...do I burn his image? NO. Do I stop others from watching them? NO. Do I want them made illegal? NO. Someone finds that entertaining...let them have it.

Fearing that someone somewhere is having a good time is a full time job for Christians.

When will people stop classifying people by their religion instead of who they are individually? I am sick of you freakin' atheists always doing that! Oh, wait, did I just stereotype you? How does it feel!
