Can someone have an open mind and believe that they will never be proven wrong?

I say no because reading it you can easily see it as a combination of two different sources.

Once source is vague and summary like and the other is detailed. They are intermingled.

It was written a lot of years after the fact (like thousands) and came from oral tradition.

Can you imagine how much can get mingled in with stories passed generation to generation?

Was meant to be a basic summary or a literal blow by blow of God making stuff?

Does it make a difference if God didn't do everything in 1 week and the earth isn't 6000 years old? Does it really change anything? To me it just creates a healthy view of the book when you look at it for what it is,

A book by people, for people, about their perceptions of God.

Here is a good source for background info on Genesis:

What do you think? Am I just mad?

I'm sure many of you are gonna this what I'm about to say is BS but...why the heck do you people and like to make each other miserable. Yes, it OK to stand up for your own religion but I know that God wouldn't want to see you people kill each other over him! God and many other Gods of other religions just want peace! SERIOUSLY! WHAT THE HECK?!

I feel that the word "suicide" has been given such a negative connotation. However, sometimes I think that it should not be seen as such a big deal. If someone has been going through a very hard time, and has thought about it rationally for a long time, should it be okay for them to decide "this life is not for me"? Maybe they should even discuss it with their family and come to the decision?

Especially for all the religious people out there, you believe in moving on to a better world, so why not?

I am not considering suicide, don't worry. I was just wondering why it is given such a negative connotation. It would be interesting to see what you guys think of this.

I know this may sound like a truly stupid question, and for that I apologize in advance, but I'd appreciate it if you'd indulge me.

I'm an agnostic theist. I know there is no evidence for God, etc., but I do have that sense that so many theists refer to that there is something greater. Christians call it "knowing in their heart," or the Holy Spirit entering them of having Jesus in their hearts. I just call it a sense that there *is* something more. It may not be "supernatural" or anything... it could just be a collective consciousness... but whatever it is, I call it God and believe in it despite the lack of evidence.

Many atheists point out that such feelings could very easily be the result of brain chemistry or such things or even mental illness.

I was just asking myself why I believe in God even though I agree with you guys on evidence requirements, etc. and the answer I came up with is this sense that God exists.

So, did God only talk to Noah and not any one else..? I thinking in the bible it said that he only talk to Noah cause Noah was a good man and all that..

So did he warn anyone else what he was going to do.?

When it started to rain what did everyone think that was not around Noah and his ark to hear what Noah had heard from God.? How about people thousands of mile away..?

For sake of an arguement lets believe...

It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. So it could cover the earth. What were the other people thinking on say 15.? Or day 20..

Did they try to go to higher ground or did no one else have a boat and try to stay aflout for awhile..?

This scientist had to retract his own paper because it was being used improperly:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/25/science/25jacobson.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Seriously, I learned a lot of science during my younger years in school. There are things that science can easily prove.

Do you really think there is some big conspiracy with scientists trying to dupe us into believing natural selection and all that instead of God?

Scientists who are also christian can see the two in harmony, that is science and faith.

Science tells us that the earth is really old and faith tells us what actually set events into motion.

I think biblical inerrancy and literalism is causing the institution of christianity to go backwards. Both have gone through a big surge in support in recent years.

What do you think?

..."Brights," "Free Thinkers," "Skeptics," or "Scruffy-Looking Nerf Herders"?

Granted, if I'm talking to a specific person I'll call him/her by his/her name; but if we're just talking about someone in general who doesn't believe in any gods, why wouldn't it be okay if I just call that person an "atheist"?

I have a feeling most of you are cool with that, but since these other words seem to have some support out there, I'm assuming there will be some on here who would advocate their use.

Thanks!

I have a family member that has fallen away into atheism. I have prayed and prayed for him, but it has done no good.

It seems hopeless. He has been this way for ten years. I have left him alone and prayed, but NOTHING seems to have changed. The only way to avoid Hell is to accept Jesus. I know that ultimately it is his decision whether or not he is saved, but he is a family member and I do not feel like it would be right to abandon him, but people say that I should leave him alone and I do, but I feel bad.

I haven't spoken to him about Jesus in years. Do you think I should bring it up again or keep silent and pray? I don't know what to do.

My own personal view is that even in the horrific case of rape, abortion is not acceptable. How can it be justified, killing an innocent life that has no control over the circumstances in which it was created?

I understand it is a terrible ordeal for the mother and that she may never be able to bond with that child, but this is not enough to justify abortion. I believe if the mother really is unable to bond with the child then it is kinder to give the child up for adoption rather than terminating it.

Do you agree, disagree? Why?

It is also a fact that the koran is almost identical to the old testament up to the point of when Ishmale was deceived , There for making the christian faith a faults religion and the the muslums the true and faithful son,s of God . What proff do you Christians have other than the Bible to prove that the muslums are wrong and you are right (keep in minde you claim your God isent a God of deciption)? ???

I am a Christian, and I have always wondered why Catholics and some High Church of England priests 'cross themselves when they pray or see something bad. Is this something that was put in place by man or is it in the bible. I have read a lot of the Bible, but I cannot find one reference to it.
