My own personal view is that even in the horrific case of rape, abortion is not acceptable. How can it be justified, killing an innocent life that has no control over the circumstances in which it was created?
I understand it is a terrible ordeal for the mother and that she may never be able to bond with that child, but this is not enough to justify abortion. I believe if the mother really is unable to bond with the child then it is kinder to give the child up for adoption rather than terminating it.
Do you agree, disagree? Why?

TO: robin ..... thankyou for adding your view, but I'd just like to correct the misconception. Abortion is not allowed in Islam under any circumstances. Any Muslim who has informed otherwise needs to better educate themselves on their religion

Abortion NEVER cured rape! Women who have been raped STILL suffer the agony and even shame (even though they are the victims and have no reason to feel shame - as though THEY did something!). Again, abortion has never helped a rape victim. In fact, in MANY instances, its quite the contrary, years later, when they have learned to overcome the grief of the rape, they regret the abortion, wondering what the child would have been like, et cetera. No. abortion is not a cure for the rape victim. It only adds extra baggage of guilt later on down the road.
People also talk about abortion because of health reasons (cancer, for instance), but abortion doesn't cure cancer, either.
Some say that abortion should be used because the baby is just too inconvenient for them "at this time". Abortion never cured "inconvenience".
Ultimately, except in the case of a life-threatening situation, abortion is just plain self-centered selfishness, without even the slightest concern for the unborn child growing within!

I disagree, as a baby that is the result of rape is a constant reminder to the woman of the traumatic experience that happened to her. That child is not a product of love or marriage or any kind of healthy relationship, so why should she have to go through the pain of raising it and caring for it, and paying expenses for it,? What if the birth of that child did not go as planned or goes horribly wrong and the woman now has a serious health disorder for the rest of her life, or worse yet, what if she dies in childbirth? I do not think it's fair for the child either to be adopted and later finding out they were a product of rape, because almost every adopted child wants to know their past. It could do serious psychological damage to the child as well. I think that abortion is ONLY right under a rape circumstance. It does both parties great harm in the long run. Every child should be born into this earth being loved and wanted by their parents.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, how that opinion stands if they go through the situation themselves can change however.
I think that in a case of rape it is entirely justifiable to have an abortion, I understand where your coming from in the question that the "child" is an innocent but I think some of it has to come down to the health of the victim (the one that is pregnant) not only physically but mentally also.
Whilst a child can be put up for adoption you also need to consider the ordeal that the woman would go through all against her will.
at the end of the day its a personal choice that others should keep their noses out of!

I think its a chose every women should be aloud to make without judgement.... And feel i cant answer that honesty never having been in that position myself. You do raise a good point, it is a human life/soul that had no say about what happen but nether did the women that now has to bring this child into the world... And what if this women feels she my not be able to offer this child a good life, is it then not her responsibility to consider an abortion as the long term best out come for this soul that has not yet come into being.... We all know the last thing this world needs is another child with a mother that's not going to care for him/her!

I agree with you when you say that how can we justify abortion in the most horrific circumstances. I also believe that when a young lady has an abortion she is committing murder, sheding of innocent blood and taking away an innocent life which that innocent life had no control over the circumstance but when the mother's life is in danger and for some reason or anther the baby will not survive beyond birth then they say that the pregnancy should be terminated but in this case I am on the fence about it all. Everybody says it is up to the indervidual but are they thinking of the innocent life they are taking away?

Assalamualaikum,
Sister I asked some students of knowledge about ur question. They gave me evidence from the Hadeeth of Prophet(SAWS), narrated by Imranbin husain(RA) about a woman of Juhaina came to the Prophet(SAWS) & accepted her fornication & she was pregnant. The Prophet(SAWS) calle dher guardian & told him to treat her well & bring her when she delivers. Then he ordered her to be stoned to death.(Reported by Muslim)[The book of Hudud, Hadith No:1041, Bulugh Al-Maram]
The above mentioned Hadith is not complete it is a part of it.
Like this even if Nauzubillah (Allah forbid) any woman is raped it is not Halal to have abortion done.If abortion was Halal Prophet (SAWS) would have mentioned it in dire states that abortion is Halal, like u can eat Haram food for survival when there is no other alternative. But for abortion there is no Proof from the Quran or Sunnah.
Jazakallahkhair.

I agree with you. It was God's will that the woman gets pregnant.
Correct me if I am wrong, but in islam a woman is allowed to have an abortion until God puts the soul into the child ( I am not sure when that is in the pregnancy term).

That,s fine and dandy coming from someone who hasn,t been raped,or related to someone who has been molested. Why dont you volunteer to work at a rape centre,to me its not an abortion its just a very thorough clean out.Which you definately need to get rid of his sperm not a baby.I hope that your daughters (if you have any) never need to go through what a lot of brave women have.

People cannot decide who should live and who should be murdered because of how babies were conceived. There are a lot people who would love to adopt such as these. Give them a chance.

The discussion is a moot point.
When you go to the hospital after being raped, they hand you a lot of pills to take. Antibiotics, pain relievers, etc. One of the pills they hand you is one to keep you from becoming pregnant. No woman who has just been raped is of sound mind to decide whether this is a pill she should take, and the nurses don't explain it fully, they just let you take the pill.
It's not an "abortion" pill, for if you take it within the first 24 hours, then you never actually become pregnant. It's the merciful thing to do for everyone involved.

I disagree, but I disagree that a fertilized egg constituted human life. Until the nervous system is developed enough for it to feel pain, I don't consider it immoral to destroy it.
Aside from that, it's not just a matter of bonding with the child, but that the woman will basically have her rape prolonged for 9 months while her body goes through monumental changes, including hormonal ones that even without the horror of rape can result in suicidal thoughts.
