Ummm. I'm an Orthodox Jew and I LOVE Halloween, more candy for me! Free chocolate is not something that I willingly pass up!

Some Orthodox Jews don't participate, but lots do.

Where are you getting this huge wide brush you're painting us with? Suggest you toss it out, and start over.

Sounds as if the question is correct no matter which way one answers.

Here is my point, you make two statements. You prefer halloween.

Orthodox Jews, Christians and Witches don't..

So...what's the problem. You can love halloween. Why can't Orthodox Jews, Christians and Witches not? Why does there have to be a distinction?

Both groups are right.

EDIT: Please do not misunderstand me. The use of the word, "You" is only used as a generality and not a direct attack against you, the poster, or any other indivudal reading this.

EDIT: EDIT: Man, I do dislike having to put dislaimers on my posts.

Halloween is based on old pagan traditions, which is why many religions don't approve of it. In actuality however, the way it is practiced now, it really has nothing to do with anything except having fun.
"So I guess everyone but the Orthodox Jews are right, they don't even believe in Christmas, and frankly, that's already skipping two awesome hollidays!" Jews have Chanukah, Purim, Pesach, Succos, Simchas Torah, Shavuous and Lag Ba'omer. You're missing out on a lot of awesome holidays !!

I am a Christian...and I LOVE Halloween....I do not think of it as anything but a chance to dress-up and pretend to be someone (or something!) else for an evening...It was NEVER meant to be a day to "celebrate" Satan....
All of my life, it was always just for fun...
Please be careful when making generalized statements such as yours....it is unwise to do so...and shows a lack of understanding of anyone who is not "just like you"...
So you're an atheist? I hope, before you die, you find something to believe in....makes for a miserable existence when you believe in nothing...

I'm a Christian and I don't see anything wrong with Halloween. It's an opportunity to dress the little ones up all cute and take them out to get some candy. No big deal.

The origin of Halloween is something all Christians should research and consider before celebrating it. What it means to one person or another can be intirely different then traditions, just like Christmas and easter. What is halloween to you in your heart. What does it represent in reality?

Halloween is secular, or pagan. Ive met many good people , of all religions who celebrated Halloween. So I guess everyone but the Orthodox Jews are right, they don't even believe in Christmas, and frankly, that's already skipping two awesome hollidays!

i was brought up believing that you celebrate all hallows eve ,
dressing up to confuse the spirit's on the sacred day, for it was the 1 day out of the whole year that the spirits came out to steal your soul......that's what I believed as a child,, my neighbor does not believe in celebrating it ,,and never let her daughter go trick or treating,, and then I corrupted her, lol,
she has been dressing up and going with me and my kids for 16 years,,, she comes to my house and dresses,,I put on her makeup ,, and we share a night of talking and getting free candy,, and occasionally we scare
a few children,,and some time's we hit a ( good house) and we get scared. It don't matter who is wrong or who is right,, what matter's is what you believe.

ironically most religious holidays are based on pagan holidays, and were called superstitions by the bigger name brand religions. all hallow even is based on the pagan holiday "samhain" celebrated by the celt of ireland and great britain....(now called all saints day)
it's the day of the year that spirits can make physical contact with the world and when magic is most potent...
that being said, you make up your own mind...do you like to go trick or treating? or are you against getting the free candy? ><
