Dear God:
I know that I'm a sinner. I deserve Hell. But You sent Jesus to die for my sins. I believe that He died and rose again. I ask you now to forgive my sins, once an for all. I now receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Personal Saviour. Please come into my heart and save me, Help me to know I am saved and live for You, the rest of my life. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.

Now I know this question looks right at Jesus... And many people may say I'm bashing him, but I'm not. If the church tells me that Jesus, a single man with great powers and a wonderful mind, was sent to save mankind by his father, Mr. God. Now, his son was born into flesh, blood and bone and was meant to feel what humans feel - like, for example, a sex drive. He spent 33 years here on earth and never once gave in to the 'temptation of the flesh' (not really a sin to have sex, biologically speaking, its how we pass on genes) - but yet hung around with 12 guys and went everywhere with them. And even turned water into wine around them.

But my real questions concerns this - does God hate gay people? I know in Iran he does - since no gay people live there. Do muslims hate homosexuals as much as Christians do?

Oh - I mean Christians love gays but we won't let them get married-Jesus told us so when he was hanging out with those 12 guys and a girl which he never got with. Hmmm...

Wouldn't he wait until we matured a little bit as a species? I mean how is it that he did so much 6000-2000 years ago but recently his works have not been known? But we must have faith while he is on vacation for 2000 years? Would't he just do some sort of a press conference (like the president) and tell us how he created everything and what laws he expects us to live by and do it translated into every language to avoid the contradictions we have today?

Don't kill OT (God)
Exodus 20:13 Thou shall not murder (ten commandments)

Do kill (God)
Deuteronomy 13:6-10 If your wife son or best friend asks you to worship other gods you are to put them to death.

Don't kill NT (Jesus)
Matthew 22:39 Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Do kill NT (Jesus)
Luke 19:27 Those who did not believe, bring hither, and slay them before me.

Do you see contradiction? Don't even get me started on the skewed sense of science....See Genesis 1:1-50:26 for Starters.

I have found the following ideologies very interesting and compatible in a lot of cases with my faith:

Some paganism
Taoism
Buddhism
Zoroasterianism (did i spell that right?)

Am I nuts or what? But I simply cannot ignore the similiarities. I admit there are some things here and there that may not jive but, why not?

If he was the son, then what sacrifice was made ?

How can it be a true sacrifice if Jesus's "death" was only temporary?

If Jesus had died and was to never be seen again, then THAT would be a great sacrifice for those who loved him !

I think this describes millions and millions of Christians who form a silent majority in the Western World.

We hold many so called 'liberal' viewpoints with regards to the bible. But still believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ and his full, physical, and corporeal resurrection.

We believe He performed all the miracles that the bible claims, and that He was born of a virgin. After all, through God all of these things are possible.

But we see Genesis as an allegory, and view the theory of evolution simply as a description of how God created the universe.

And we see many Christians getting hung up on things like sexual immorality, homosexuality, etc, and not paying enough attention to poverty, hunger, and the incredible greed of the richer nations.

Does this describe your Christian faith and viewpoints?

That's it...if i don't get this out of me i'm going to explode. And my apologies to all other users who this message does not apply to - just give me a pass on this one will you?

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY USELESS ANSWERS?

USELESS - as in "While your asking a legitimate question, let me just butt in and answer you with a sentance that has absolutely nothing to do with your question - go me!! Your stupid you ______(fill in the blank)"

[I exclude funny answers....but then again not many answers have enough Wit to be considered as such.]

You know a few weeks ago i was listening to the radio about poverty and debt relief - person calls in and starts talking about Jesus...and more Jesus...and more Jesus...

Couple days ago a US diplomat talking said "our thoughts and prayers go out to the Burmese monks" only to get a phone call from an Atheist about how its illogical to pray..

Both respondents of course, backed away from offering up comment/solution to the actual question

In India lots of Christian Ashrams in the style as ancient hindu ashrams are sprouting..Christian Swamis and Sanyasis are frequently seen every where..wearing robes as ancient sanyasis, growing long beard, building ashrams as ancient days....It is useless to tell the missionaries that Hindu sâdhanâ has nothing to do with building some stylised houses, exhibiting pretentious signboards, putting on a particular type of dress, and performing certain rituals in a particular way Hindu sâdhanâ has been and remains a far deeper and difficult undertaking. It means being busy with one's own self rather than with saving others It means clearing the dirt and dross within one's own self rather than calling on others to swear by a totem trotted out as the only saviour It has no place for superstitions like atoning death of a chirst Above all it is not consistent with double-talk-harbouring one motive in the heart and mouthing another A counterfeit must remain a counterf howsoever lavishly advertised

Early this morning a friends grandmother passed away.

They are Jewish and will now sit Shiva.

I am not used to the Jewish customs and such and was wondering what is appropriate and what is not.

My husband and I would like to send something on behalf of ourselves. They are in New York and we are in Texas and unable to pay a Shiva call.

I believe we are supposed to send food. But what should we send? I know the first meal after the burial includes bread, hard boiled eggs, lentil and coffee/tea. It is also my understanding that Shiva does not actually start until after the burial.

I dont yet know when the burial would be and will probably be sending something today. So what should I send? What is acceptable to send before the Shiva? Or even during Shiva?

Theologians and philosophers have studied countless conceptions of God since the dawn of civilization.

Due to these conception there has also been many depictations and usages of God. From the early stages of God till today, God has changed many times. Not only in looks, but also in behaviour and agenda.

God has simply evolved from one point to another during many thousands of years.

How can people that belief in God, shun evolution, when their base of belief itself has evolved?

I would say I am 98% an Athiest.

Now, let's be clear on this. This DOES NOT mean that 2% of my thinks that:

* Heaven and Hell exists
* that Jesus or any other prophet could perform miracles
etc.,

But it means that 2% of me thinks in this way:

* Although Creationism in any scripture is totally absurd, there is a strageness to the origin of the universe that may indicate something outside of Nature. Of course, this may well be down to man's incomprehension of certain Quantum laws, that may mean that matter can spring into existence by perfectly natural means. This sounds impossible, but we know that it can and did happen by virtue of the observable universe.

* That there can be no evidence that God or a spititual 'entity' can 100% be disproven (stemming from Agnosticism)

And that's it. It's the origin of the Big Bang that has me thinking. Neither Religion or Science can provide a satisfactory explination.

********************

So what % of an Atheist are you?
