I read about some baseball player who said he didn't believe dinosaurs ever existed, because they weren't mentioned in the bible... Is this a religious thing, or a stupid thing? Also... are there really people who think the earth is only 6000 years old, depsite the preponderance of evidence contrary to it?

The closest one that i found not liking too much was Jacob just b/c of the way he tricked his father Issac into giving him his blessing that was originally was for his brother Essau. Again any replies that say god is a myth or a fairytale will be ignored. I'm looking for an answer to my question not if you believe that god is real or not.

Some of you are trying start an honest debate. Some of you are looking for people who agree with your point of view. SOME of you are just using your questions as a chance to take a cheap shot at someone's beliefs.

Why do you ask questions here in the R&S section

Because were changing and we just don't really share anything anymore. But I'm afraid that if I choose to stop hanging out with him because I don't enjoy the time we spend together anymore that he think more negatively of Christians then he does now. I don't want to be responsible for leading him away from Christ, despite our differences. What should I do. I don't want this relationship anymore, But i don't want to leave, because he will say something like "wow! Thats a really "Christian" thing to do!" Help! What should I do?

What would it be or sound like or what kind of lyrics would it have?

I was watching a commercial last night. One of those Christian inspirational albums with everything from Christian rock to Christian jazz and so on, all on one album and it got me to thinking..

Christians really have a great ad campaign and really have everything they need to keep the "faith" including their own brand of music.Sure, Atheists have science books, rationality, and often times a higher IQ.But, what about music to inspire free thought that is void of deities and magical tales of miracles and winged men who float in the clouds?Where are the Atheist commercials that send a message of peace and love through simple humanity?

I mean, how does it feel to take what an old book tells you at face value?

Why don't you question what your pastors /ministers /preachers tell you? Some of you bash evolution, but in those rants you show a total lack of understanding, arising from only reading on evolution from religious pamphlets.

And more important....WHY DO YOU TITHE?? Why don't you give that money to relief organizations not related to churches?

Doesn't it look weird to you to see your pastors /preachers /ministers living in rich houses and driving expensive cars?

Does SALVATION entail relinquishing the earnings of your hard work? Do your kids deserve this?

What would Jesus think of wealthy ministers and pastors?

THINK....

After watching the zeitgeist movie I have been curious as to the relationship between Jesus and the "Sun God." There were a lot of interesting points made, but it was rather bias. Do you know of any good literature that explains why Jesus is believed to be the Sun God and any literature that refutes this point of view? I want to learn about both sides of the issue here. I'm not a one-sided man. If you don't know of any literature, then web links are fine. It is just that I prefer books over the internet. Thank you.

And I have found some books on this topic but not many. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Such as online poker, small stakes just for fun. Nothing major where one is gambling his own savings away, but just for the enjoyment and fun of it.

How can we expect other people to follow our religion when we don't do the same ourselves? We hear about it every Sunday in church. The call to bring people into a relationship with God, yet we sin about as bad as they do, and call ourselves children of God. Everyone sins, everyone does wrong, I get that, but I think it's time we take a stand and show people the love and compassion Jesus is all about. Maybe if people could see God in us, they'd change..
Just my thoughts. Is anyone with me here?

Why does the Watchtower discourage teenagers to go to college or university to follow their dreams. In the magazines from the Watchtower they indirectly make youngsters feel guilt from wanting to have high paying careers that require years of study or even wanting to be in Sports or acting or singing careers.

They don't directly say you can't be a Doctor or a Lawyer or a proffesional football player, but they do make you feel guilty for wanting such things.

But the funny thing is that Jehovah's Witnesses, although discourage their kids in becoming wealthy and popular, JW's do enjoy going to the movies, concerts, sport events. So they don't want JW's to be actors, etc, but at the same time they enjoy that other humans have dedicated their lifes to these type of careers.

What is that?

Is it a moral prerogative to try to lift people out of the haze of delusion? Or are some people so intellectually challenged that they are actually better people in maintaining their delusion? If someone is so very crippled, is it more ethical to give them a crutch or encourage them to walk on their two feet?

SexyAbs asked this question:
"Why does the Bible suggest the Rapist marry the woman he has raped?"

and used his own English translation to try and prove it:

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29)
"If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her."

*****
Now here's the shocking part--

Do you realize how many mindless sheep who come to R&S didn't even bother to check if the translation was correct?

I don't believe in Heaven or Hell, so it makes no difference to me. But I have read the Bible, and according to that, it must be pretty hard to get in those pearly gates.

So what makes you think that you are getting in?

A public school in Illinois has decided to stop observing traditional holidays after a Muslim mother requested that the school observe Ramadan. Halloween will be referred to as the "Fall Celebration" and Christmas as "Winter Celebration".

Do you think that this goes too far because holidays like Christmas and Easter have been secularized and aren't traditional religious celebrations?

Do you think that traditional holidays should continue to be observed alongside other holidays like Ramadan?

Or do you agree with this school board's decision?

I used to belong to a small Bible study. I had shared some personal problems with my Bible leader privately and requested that she not say anything to anyone. I discovered to my horror that she told other people at church. Some people approached me and some even went to my parents and told them things I did not want them to know. As a result, I confronted the leader. She apologized, but I have dropped out of the bible study. I would like to give her a list of code of ethics she should be following, because she is studying to be a counselor as well.

a boy is pulling an overloaded wagon down the sidewalk, after every couple steps, the rear left wheel would fall off of the wagon, and every time the boy would yell "god damn it!", walk back to the corner, pick up the wagon, and reattach the wheel. As he approached a church, the priest approached him and warned him about saying such evil things.

The priest suggested that instead of cursing the wagon wheel, that he might use jesus's example. he said "next time the wheel falls off, try saying *god bless it* instead. so the boy agreed, and continued on his way, he didn't get but four steps away, and the wheel fell off again...the boy, obviously very angry yells "GOD bless it" just then the wagon pops up, the wheel reattaches itself to the wagon, and it lowers to the pavement....
The priests eyes wide with disbelief mutters "god damn"....

Wouldn't it seem more likely that any deity would smile on those nations or polities that specifically incorporated his/her/its worship into the framework of the government?
Yet, the US constitution never mentions the word "god", and specifically prohibits the federal government from establishing a state religion.
