Yes, we should.
The crutch you're talking about in this case is an emotional crutch, not a physical one or intellectual one. That's why even smart people fall for religious superstition. And religion, as an emotional crutch, isn't a very good one. I would argue that religion causes more angst than it helps.

I'm an atheist too. I used to answer questions here in the R&S section, but found that by and large people on both sides of the philosophical aisle are just plain nasty. I have no idea who you are, so I don't mean you personally. But the majority of atheists's answers I read on here certainly aren't encouraging anyone but rather seem to confirm the belief the religious have that atheists are all @ssholes. You don't change someone's state of mind or point of view by being rude. I think, unfortunately, that by and large the atheists I have personally seen on this site are keeping people in the haze by their own crass attitudes.

An Atheist : Due to Humans god is alive.
So the Atheist also thinks of God!
Although God has six attributes in all religions it is similar to definition of Scientific with its six laws. Science is Magic by senses in a Laboratory, but Spirituality is proved by Logical examples set as Miracle which is developing science. Miracle leads to Magic. God is the good in all. It is the positive energy in all. So God is Science after all.
Develop the mind to be so powerful that the lame can start walking or move without moving. So God is in all Humans if only the bodily Temple is kept as pure like Jesus.

I'm not sure what side of the issue you are on, and exactly who it is you think is "deluded" and "crippled". Personally I think "Religion" is the biggest crutch ever devised to keep people from building the muscle to walk on their own. It is also intended to keep people from developing strong minds too, because all religions demand of their followers that they reject independent thinking and totally embrace the indoctrination of that particular belief system.
Before you seek to "lift somebody out of the haze of his delusion" you have to have the clearest and most incontrovertible proof that he is the one in the delusional haze, and not YOU". People who seek to "show others where they are going wrong and thinking wrong" are almost always individuals who have themselves been indoctrinated so deeply into a certain belief, that they have become zombie-slaves to it, conditioned to think of everybody else as being "deluded and wrong".

There's a small but finite chance that, once in a while, something said here will stick.
For instance, I have a suspicion that it was I who first introduced the idea of a 'morality instinct' to this forum - it's something I've been working on and debating in various places for years.*
Now I hear it being repeated by others, which is very gratifying.

Although some people are very intellectually challenged - calling atheism a 'religion' is an indication of this - nobody is a better person for believing in nonsense and too much harm is done in the name of this nonsense for it to remain unchallenged.

Absolutely, the fact that you are here shows you are interested in spiritual things, Your delusion is you are your own god.
I was once as you are now, what you call delusion has become the substance of Life for my spirit and for the true followers and believers of Jesus Christ the Messiah,
Shalom

I think if someone is atheist, but takes the time to be open minded and give a well thought out answer to someone's religious beliefs or questioning - why does it matter? It's not your or anyone else's responsibility to "save" this individual. If more people would mind their own business instead of trying to save people who are living perfectly fine by themselves and not causing any harm to you or your person, the better off the world would be.

It is everyone and anyone's reasponsibilty to share what they know and understand about God to those who have lost there way.
How do you know that the next time someone asks you something you won't be the one that finally makes them see. How do you know that what you say to someone today won't stay with them and help them on there way back to God.
Don't give up the fight and try to help as many come back as you can in what ever way you feel you can. That is what I believe true faith is about, believing and helping others to do the same. It even says something in the Bible about this too.
And it is very favorable in God's eyes.

Atheism is a religion of a kind, we just value the human potential over a higher power or deity, by you complaining about it makes you a hypocrit for not being tolerant of others religions, thats why I'm not Christian, because Christians themselves know nothing beyond getting saved. I am an atheist and i know more about the bible than most christians, I've proved many of my old pastors wrong by quoting scripture. If animals can have rights so can Atheists. There Is No GOD! Just because we don't believe in your god doesn't mean we're bad people, have I personally ever harmed or emotionally harmed you in anyway? No, so why do you have an issue?
Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian:
10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.
9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.
8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.
7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!
6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.
5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.
4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."
3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.
2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.
1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.
AND ATHEISTS HAVE MORALS! MORALS HAVE BEEN AROUND ALOT LONGER THAN RELIGION HAS SO QUIT BEING INHUMAN AND A HYPOCRIT!
