Why was it such an important thing back in the old days in different cultures to burn the body after the person passed? What kind of significance did it hold?

Thanks :)

It just seems to me that their brains are wired differenly, where they think in "logical" terms rather than "spiritual" terms.

Is there any kind of study of the brains to see why people think differenly?

If you want to know the earth is round, you don't study evidence that it is flat (as some still do on the net) Negative thinking is a copout for legitimate study.

So Mo named and define the truth about ancient society? That everyone was a Muslim but were not aware of it until he came along and verbalized it?
Following this logic, is it good to revert back to ancient societal ways just because they were the first to exist? Shouldn't mankind progress and move on? I mean each used to hunt and gather their own food but I don't think that's practical for society today.
Muslims, just because ancient society was Muslims ( and I'm not saying they were, you are), does that automatically make it true and the right way to base society on today, just because it is ancient or is there another basis for your reasoning?

And if the first societies were Muslims, what made them discard this and become Jews and Christians?

Hi folks of all religions,
I am a standard C of E Christian and have respect for all faiths.
But many freinds of the Roman Catholic arena fumble over this question.

As Jesus is held as an icon in the RC faith, is it forgotten that the Romans killed him ?

A conflict of interests, perhaps ?

Actions are more powerful than words.

You can talk peace for 40 years, but as soon as you use violence especially on those who were clearly innocent, then you lose ALL credibility in the world.

Talk is cheap.

You cant invade a nation and then expect the people there to embrace non violence and not repel the invader.

Its a slap in the face of what the founding fathers fought for.

I don't capitalize the word "god" but I don't do it out of spite or the need to offend people. I was just wondering if people get offended by this and why.

I have been on Y! Answers looking at the different questions on religion and I've seen questions being asked by and to christians and athiests pop on and down talk their beliefs and christians set up answers to show that they are judging the Athiests for not believing in God.

It seems as if no one is happy to let each other live as they would choose. But christians, doesn't this contradict Jesus' law of Love one another? And Athiests why do you complain of being judged and then turn and judge other people?

I dont understand. Why is it SO IMPORTANT to prove one another wrong?

this is just a right now revelation. to kill the flesh/carry the cross is by starving the lust to sin, by starving it..in thinking on it..starving it's rights of expresison..(short temperance/tolerance) love fruits are vital..lust of the eyes..the cars/truck house, spouse, things..on and on..GOD knows our needs..what he wants is RELATIONSHIP..HE'll supply ourneeds right? so that we have victory going from faith to faith..glory to glory..by patience, by obedience..ha..starve the sinful nature..the fear/worry nature..starve the lust of sweets/salt smoking/cussing..whatever..it will die off..for demon and flesh unite when we give themt the right to express in sin or in thought or in speech.
any AMEN? that my quesiton..lol.

If we are all supposed to be tolerant of others beliefs and respect everyone then why do I see so many thumbs downs? Some of the answers that have thumbs downs are actually very good and relevant to the questions, even when they go against my personal belief if I feel it is true to what the asker believes then I thumbs up it, if I disagree I pass by.

THERE was ruin and terror in Manhattan, but, over the Hudson River in New Jersey, a handful of men were dancing. As the World Trade Centre burned and crumpled, the five men celebrated and filmed the worst atrocity ever committed on American soil as it played out before their eyes.

By 4pm on the afternoon of September 11, the van was spotted near New Jersey’s Giants stadium. A squad car pulled it over and inside were five men in their 20s. They were hustled out of the car with guns levelled at their heads and handcuffed.

In the car was $4700 in cash, a couple of foreign passports and a pair of box cutters – the concealed Stanley Knife-type blades used by the 19 hijackers who’d flown jetliners into the World Trade Centre and Pentagon just hours before. There were also fresh pictures of the men standing with the smouldering wreckage of the Twin Towers in the background. One image showed a hand flicking a lighter in front of the devastated buildings, like a fan at a pop concert. The driver of the van then told the arresting officers: “We are Israeli. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the problem.”

how do you know that the bible isnt a trick and wasnt written by the devil, after all if he can get people to believe in dinosaurs then gettin people to believe in a book must be pretty simple.

and dont use bible quotes as proof, think about it, if the bible says it is ll good, if the devil wrote it he would say that even though it is all evil, how do you know that all this time you havent been worshipping the devil?

"The six primary Planets are revolved about the Sun, in circles concentric with the Sun, and with motions directed towards the same parts, and almost in the same plane. . . . But it is not to be conceived that mere mechanical causes could give birth to so many regular motions. . . . This most beautiful System of the Sun, Planets, and Comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being."

"Eternal and Infinite, Omnipotent and Omniscient; . . . he governs all things, and knows all things that are or can be done. . . . We know him only by his most wise and excellent contrivances of things, and final causes; we admire him for his perfections; but we reverence and adore him on account of his dominion."

The ten commandments say's:
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Isn't Jesus idolized by Christians and non Christians alike? Many non Christians, non church visiting people, such as someone in into the Goth fad, wear crosses, have images of Jesus, etc...
I don't understand why Christians do? Are Christians putting Jesus before God?

A cross of Jesus in a church is visualized before God, is this not a symbol ? A cruxification of Christ.
Why doesn't Christians worship, Jesus the same way they worship God, spiritually, without the symbols & idolization ? Statues, crosses, cruxification statues, etc...

If Jesus died for the sins of all humans, then why do Christians continue to idolize him, and continue to sin, doesn't make sense. Shouldn't Christians be setting examples.
Not all Christians and churces do this, but majority of them do
