why would one fear something one does not believe exists? that would be rather silly now wouldn't it?

No, why? I lived in fear when I did believe in god, perhaps this question should be asked.

I am basically, as the best I can describe it, a nontheist. Even if god did exist there is no necessity to follow this god, anyway. If nontheism does not work then atheism is the next best thing.

Nope.

Why should I be? First I would have to believe in something that cannot be proved to exist.

Even if I cross that threshold, I would then have to believe this God would have the same human characteristics of an earthly Emperor or King.

The idea some higher power demands my belief/worship or face eternal punishment, amounts to slavery.

Not in the slightest. Not believing in gods is the only rational position to take.

I am not FEARFUL . I just believe. It's not like it is a choice I make ..Oh good idea. avoid hell fire ..believe in God. He is just in my life. He is with me. I can no more disbelieve him than I can my own heart and hands.

Not in slightest.
That is what holds many people to religion though, fear. Fear of a god, fear of death, fear of the unknown. Religions survive because of fear, it's what they promote, it's their greatest tool.

At one time...very. It has been shown to me since then that I can and would endure much and still remain in Him as He is in me and in fact draw closer. Do I ever worry that something so profound and inexplicable could happen to take my faith away...I don't see how...yet, I know that I am weak. I would hope to have the faith of Job..."Yet though He slay me, I will trust Him." Love in Christ, ~J~

I used to be, then I got over my fear and became an atheist.

Yes, because I don't want to take a chance on my soul being sent to a burning torment, (hell).
