We're all going to die and that's the end. Our lives are meaningless given this inevitability. Billions have died before you and billions will die after you. You might say that your deeds are noble and you're doing it for those after you, but all of humanity will die and it won't have meant anything. This miniscule earth will be destroyed. For all we know, infinities of creatures lived, evolved, and thought somewhat like we did, before us. And infinities of creatures will do the same after we're gone. This thing that we call the universe will swallow itself up again and new life will evolve. Don't give me some kind of grief about finding meaning, there is none to be found. Everything we do boils down to chemical reactions and physics. We're just matter, no more special that the chair you might sit in.

San Diego City Council unanimously adopted a resolution introduced by Mayor Jerry Sanders to designate July as "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Month."
James Hartline, who brought about 35 supporters. Hartline, a former homosexual who says he participated in "pride" events in 1998, expressed deep disappointment that the city is honoring an event "opposed by thousands of San Diegans."

Hartline told council members of the festival's involvement with homosexual porn companies such as the F Street Book store, "raunchy S & M classes" held in city-owned Balboa Park, the showcasing of porn stars such as Tommy Blade, promotion of "gay" bath houses and public nudity.

Hartline also reminded the council that last year it would not allow him to show "photographs in (your) chamber which document the filth inside of the San Diego Gay Pride parade and festival
Heterosexuals do not identify themselves by who they are sleeping with, why do homosexuals feel a need to?

Someone comes to me; teaches me about Jesus; his death, burial, and resurrection; I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, I repent of my past sins, I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior. He then says to me:
"Then you need to be baptized"

I reply to him, "look, I don't want to go through all of that."
He turns to me with a surprised look on his face and says, "but what do you mean? That's a part of obeying the gospel; That's how you come in contact with the blood. That's how your sins are remitted, remember what I taught you?"

I say, "yeah but I'd be kind of ashamed in front of all of those people"

The guy says, "Look, one of the LAST things Jesus said before he ascended into heaven was,

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." Mat 28:19-20

In islam, the hadith quotes prophet mohammed saying on the signs of the end of time "..a night three nights long will follow the fog. After the night of three nights, the sun will rise in the west..." and this marks begining of judgement day.

QUOTED 1400 years ago..

JUST RECENTLY scientist discovered that earth when first created (came into existance) used to rotate around itself in just 4 hours... today it is just under 24 hours....

it will slow down to the point where it will STOP, and like a spring, start rotating in the other diretion...

this being said, the sun (to us) will start rising from the west in the morning, (actually mohammed (pbuh) even said that this stop will last 3 days)

some non-islamic links to this are..

http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~dvandom/Edu/newcor.html
http://www.howtosurvive2012.com/htm/pole_02.htm

(this may have happened before but how would Mohammed now about it or that it will again)

CAN ANYONE STILL PROVE THIS WRONG??

Why do Trinitarians say thay worship one God as three people? I don't understand how a god and holy spirit can be called "persons". I also don't see how calling the three parts persons rather than gods makes it monotheistic. This all seems like so much trouble to explain a concept when there is nothing wrong with admitting to polytheistic beliefs.

If all these Religions worship the same God, but with a different name, then is it the "name" that causes all the discord?. The "name" came from the culture who wrote it down. How can the discord ever end?

Did you ever notice the ones that call themselves "true Christians" are the ones that seem to be so wrapped up in the end times, the coming of Jesus..ect? They quote scripture trying to find out when it will happen. If your a "true Christian" and have done all the right things why can't you just be "pleasantly surprised" when it happens...why worry about it...why try to figure out when it will happen?

Any thoughts on this? :)

I have of late began to realize that day by day we are closer to the return of Christ. I mean I really feel it, and I see it in all the media and the way technology is rushing to meet the demand of the one world government, that will soon be imposed on all people.

Romans 13:10-14 reads
10 Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
11 And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.
14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

R we in the last days? Any thoughts?

I am Catholic, my boyfriend is Baptist. I occasionally go to his church, he occasionally comes to mine. It's never seemed like that big a deal. But his mother told his pastor I am Catholic and now the pastor wants to talk to my boyfriend and me and is basically demanding I come talk to him. Do I have to? What is he going to say? I have heard this guy preach, and he strikes me as quite fundamentalist. I am a little freaked out because I don't know fi this is going to be a good conversation or a bad conversation.

I'll acceed that the most common forms of polygamy are horribly sexist, but polygamy need not be sexist by definition.

Additionally, many people with religious objections to polygamy fail to recognize the multitude of poligamists in their own religious traditions.

Considering that the primary purpose of marriage is raising healthy, well-adapted children, wouldn't multiple marriage make more sense? It seems to me that four or five parents could protect and nurture their children more easily and fully than just two.

Your thoughts?

I'm just wondering.. if there were some way to prove that a particular religion were right, would you be glad to know there would be an afterlife available to you, or would you still prefer to just die?

Do you think any of the religions encourage goodness, or are they all detrimental in your opinion?

If you could pick one of the religions and somehow make it the correct one (like I said, humor me here), which would you pick, and why?

Consider the following scenarios and tell us what you'd do:

1.) Oil companies locate new sources of petroleum by hiring geologists -- geologists whose science is predicated on Earth being billions of years old, not thousands. Would you refuse to buy gas for your car if it was made using this "false" science? Would you demand that the oil companies offer "Young Earth-compliant" alternatives?

2.) You were the sole breadwinner for your family. You've been in an accident, and are paralyzed from the neck down. Stem cell research has perfected a process that will restore your body completely. Would you undergo the treatment, or remain paralyzed and risk an uncertain future?

3.) Your child is deathly ill with a bacterial infection. In days of old, penicillin would cure your child. But your doctor tells you the bacteria has evolved to resist penicillin. He recommends a "cocktail" of antibiotics to save her life. Do you accept the "evolution-based" cure, or take your chances?

Here's a personal story.

This past Father's Day, I attended a family dinner with my mom, dad, grandpa, and uncle.

My uncle is a born-again Christian, and a fundie in the worst way. The topic of religion came up somehow, and here's the story he told me.

AIDS was not spread to humans from monkies. It was engineered by humans by combining several known diseases (he named some, but I forget), and then distributed to gay men in New York City, and to Africa via Hep B innoculations, for the purpose of world population control.

WHAT THE F**K!!!!!!!????

I almost said that. Instead, I calmly replied, "Why Africa? Asia has a far larger population," for the sake of argument.
He said, "Uh...well, AIDS is there, too...right?"

How can people defend a religion that promotes this crap? He honestly believes these things. And I know that there are a great many Christians who aren't bigots, but there seem to be alot who are as well.

Oh yeah, a question...hm...

There was an earlier question asking if Catholic doctrines change. Lots of people said "yes", but gave no examples.

Change in language of Mass? - no, this is a custom
Validity of Limbo? - no, not doctrine, just a theory that is being re-examined.
