Here's a personal story.

This past Father's Day, I attended a family dinner with my mom, dad, grandpa, and uncle.

My uncle is a born-again Christian, and a fundie in the worst way. The topic of religion came up somehow, and here's the story he told me.

AIDS was not spread to humans from monkies. It was engineered by humans by combining several known diseases (he named some, but I forget), and then distributed to gay men in New York City, and to Africa via Hep B innoculations, for the purpose of world population control.

WHAT THE F**K!!!!!!!????

I almost said that. Instead, I calmly replied, "Why Africa? Asia has a far larger population," for the sake of argument.
He said, "Uh...well, AIDS is there, too...right?"

How can people defend a religion that promotes this crap? He honestly believes these things. And I know that there are a great many Christians who aren't bigots, but there seem to be alot who are as well.

Oh yeah, a question...hm...

Have you ever heard a more ridiculous story than this one?

I should have added that he got this story, and other through his chruch. I think it's more that the chruch-goers talk, and these things come out, not so much that their preacher teaches hate. That would have cleared things up.

Sad to say, some "churches" may promote this type of nonsense, but drivel such as this absolutely does not have any bearing on the basic truths of the gospel. It is a shame that your uncle does not have the discernment to realize that his church is not teaching good doctrine, nor promoting unconditional love of others, which is *why* Jesus died on the cross!

I hope that you will not be afraid to search out the real truth about Jesus. This would change your life eternally (and give you legitimate arguments for your uncle!). I would recommend the following books, if you're interested:

1. A Ready Defense by Josh McDowell

2. The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel

3. God's Outrageous Claims: Discover What They Mean For You by Lee Strobel

Best wishes to you! Keep seeking...

Wow, I never thought I would agree with a born again! But there is some truth in his story about AIDS. It was engineered by humans at Case Western Reserve University. They did inject it in gay men and in Africa. Why would they inject the Africans you ask, for their land, I know the European took their land already but next to Jews, Gays and Blacks are the most disliked group of people.

A more ridiculous story?

Ask him about the one where the guy dies but then rises from the dead three days later--still with the holes in his wrists and ankles of course--and then flies into outer space (powered only by the will of his mind) to join his dad. Oh, and by the way,he's also his own dad; I shouldn't forget that important and intuitive part!

Or the one about the first woman being made from a man's rib and how she caused the downfall of everyone when she ate an apple given to her by a talking snake.

Or the guy who lives in a whale. Or the guy who was able to hold 6 million species of bugs not to mention all the lions, tigers and bears (oh my!) on one boat.

lol... nope.

The thing is that many born-again christians (I am one) believe all of the stuff that the religion channel on TV tells them and try to make stuff up. We don't need to prove to others what we believe with words, we just have faith that Jesus will save us and that the Bible is God's true word. All of this other stuff we try to prove and say to make us feel smart, even if it makes us feel stupid. I personally avoid all that stuff.

It's not actually connected to our religion, just some religious people have picked it up over the years and gave us all a bad name.

world population control?

Hmmm...wouldn't it be more effective to spread the virus to heterosexuals who procreate?

What about all of the "innocents" who contract the disease...children, and people from blood transfusions, etc...was this part of the master plan too?

Your uncle is a nut-job...I would steer clear of him.

To answer your question: Yes

Goes something like "This guy 2000 years ago died, arose, disappeared ,and is coming back someday."

But your uncle's a whack job!

He is an idiot but I doubt it is related to his religious beliefs...more like, his religious beliefs are related to his hateful bigoted attitude...that is not official Christian thought...

In fairness, I don't think religion has anything to do with it -- your uncle is just a loon.
