I think it's true to say that through history most Christians never read the Bible. The early church didn't let most people read it and besides there were very few around befor the printing press. Also, most couldn't read. My mother, brought up a catholic went to church a lot but has often told me she knowns very little of the Bible and was never encouraged to read it.

Or do they pick and choose what to follow out of the 10 commandments also ?

Looks like Satan has fooled them into giving up the Laws of God and thereby losing the essence of the covenant with God through Abraham.

I have known this lovely elderly Jehovas witness lady for twenty years. We have been neighbours and constant friends through this time. She helped me through cancer, and i helped her through the loss of her husband, and the murder of her daughter. We have studied the bible together, and had some thought provoking discussions. I LOVE this lady.
Recently i changed from agnostic, to Wiccan. I told her of my choice, and she said that she would continue to hope i would be led to god, and that she still cared very much for me. We remained friends. Yesterday she came knocking on my door on her witnessing rounds, and brought a man with her. During our discussion, i politely told this man of my beliefs and that i still enjoyed a good chat! He appeared angry, and was quiet for a few moments. He then told my friend that they should not be there and told her how dirty and sinfull i was. My friend tried to protest but he insisted and dragged her away crying.....WHY?

I recently found this Yahoo answer site and at first I was thrilled. I thought, I can talk about faith and how I feel when I feel Jesus moving through me. The Christians annoy me more than the non Christians. The Christians here say there's no evolution, & there were no dinosaurs. I'm shocked! What God do you so called Christians beleive in. What mystery of this earth, of this universe is not of God? I don't get it. No dinosaurs? Are you people for real? Why do I have to choose God, or evolution? Obviously you people don't think God was capable of sparking evolution or creating a dinosaur. Love Bugs were not mentioned in the Bible, but they exsists. Or are the 2 kind of Christians? Logical christians and then the Christians who figure if it don't make sense to them then it's not of God? Such ARROGANCE. You'll never understand God's capacity. It never occured to me to not think that God was responsible for evolution, dinosaurs, & possibly lil green men from Zurton.

They love YOU, without asking what have you done for me lately? They fear for YOU. Fear that you'll lose opportunities to live this life in the here and now and one day will have huge regrets. They fear that your future is unstable, that you'll not be able to care for yourself because of giving your youth and energy to a religion that won't allow you time to develop your personal best in your career and interests outside of religion. They have sorrow for you that you're under the spell of men who don't love you, who would ask and fully expect that you give up the very foundation of happiness, your family, if so asked. Sorrow that you're so afraid of the good around you, because you've been too poisoned to see it.

I'm sure others on here can give you reasons why they fear for you, but these are mine, and I feel them deeply. I pray that one of these posts will put a chink in the armor they've wrapped around you, and allow you to see your real truth, and have the courage to live.

Paul and the other New Testament writers, expects the end to come soon. "The time is short." So there's no time for sex and marriage since the world will be ending soon.

1 Corinthians 7

----"I would that all men were even as I myself. ... But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn."

Paul recommends that all men and woman would abstain from sex. But those who can't control themselves should get married, for "it is better to marry than to burn."

-----"It is good for a man not to touch a woman."

Paul would prefer that no one marry. But he says "to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife.

He was obviously SO WRONG and yet now his words are given equal strength to the Word of God.

Paul and other authors were wrong to think Jesus would return in their lifetime and Christians say they were divinely inspired ?

"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom." -- Matthew16:28

"But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God." -- Luke 9:27

"Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done." -- New Testament

Psalm 109:6
KJV Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
NIV Appoint an evil man to oppose him; let an accuser stand at his right hand.

Luke 4:8
KJV And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
NIV Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'"

What did he do to deserve that?

I was just told that God's infinite mercy can be found in this passage:

5th Commandment: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love me and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:5-6)

Isn't that kind of like me saying "If you do what I say, I'll stop beating the crap out of you and killing your children"?
