You're okay, and very intelligent. You are right that you can be a good christian and not believe every word of the bible. Everyone has the right to follow Christ according to his/her own conscience, and those who would try to deny you that right feel threatened by anyone who disagrees with them. They are on shakier ground than you are.

Taylor ... nobody can tell you you are or you aren't! If YOU believe in Christ, then that makes you a Christian, pure and simple, and NOBODY can take that away from you!
I have a suggestion:
Go to your prayer place and have a talk with God. Ask, "am I still a Christian even though I can't believe everything in the bible is true?"
If you hear an answer inside you and it says, "No. I will disown you and reject you until you agree with everything I have said in my book. You must be pure in belief before I will let you follow me," then you're probably playing some judgemental religious zealot's blah blah blah in your head.
If you hear the answer inside you and it says, "Of course. How could I refuse your love just because you don't accept everything in the bible? I love you no matter what!" ... then what do you believe is the voice to live by? You can say you are a Christian and it is so.

Believing everything in the Bible does seem like a hard task, but if you just can get into it get the deeper meaning and understanding of it you just might begin to believe it more. I have a number of different Bibles to read from, when I first started out it was all foreign to me and I couldn't understand nor did I except it either, but through the years I have it is not nothing that will happen over night. Read and reread the more you do the more you will be able to understand and learn to except it more and believe it more..ask God to give you a deeper understanding of His word and a deeper wisdom of His word and also ask Him to increase your faith in His word too and to remove any and all doubt. He will, He had to with me cause with what I seen and understood I wasn't getting very far..By the way yes I do believe everything the Bible says...

I think the only reason you don't believe it, and excuse me if I'm completely mistaken, is that perhaps you haven't been with a good bible teaching church, or been in serious bible study. You have to really read the bible, and see it proven true over and over again, to understand that it can be trusted as God's word.
And in case you merely do not "agree" with what the bible says, we need to realize that what we think (i.e., our opinions) and what is true is not necessarily the same.
My other question to you is....if you are a Christian, where do you get your information about who Jesus is? If it's the bible, why do you choose to believe some things and not other things? Just a question.

You must believe that everything in teh Bible is God's inspired true word. Keep in mind that not all is literal, there are songs, poems, metaphors, and real history. The Gospels are real literal history. You MUST believe that Jesus Christ suffered, died, and rose from the dead for forgiveness of ours sins and to restore our eternal life. You MUST believe that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Bible is the inspired word of God and inerrant in its original language. I think you walk on dangerous ground when you think you can pick and choose what is true and what isn't. As a previous answerer said, there is poetry, metaphors, figures of speech, etc., but those are obvious to any reasonably intelligent reader. But there is historical truth and doctrinal truth which I don't believe Christians have the latitude to determine for themselves the veracity of these passages.

If you don't believe in what the Bible says, then you are making an idol of your own opinion.
God states something, but you say: "Sorry I don't see it that way."
How is Jesus Lord if you don't believe him and obey Him?

Becoming a Christian doesn't always happen all at once. As you grow in your faith God will find ways to help you overcome the doubts you have now, so long as you keep an open mind and an open heart.

Actually, you cannot believe in everything in the Bible (literally) and be a Christian. If you did, you would be forced to ignore reality and defend your position with lies.

that's ok. your understanding of the bible will grow as your faith matures. what is a mystery to you now will be revealed as your life unfolds.
kinda like when we moved out of our parents' house - paying bills, rent, and all that seemed pretty easy on paper...but as we matured and our lives changed - boy, was it a lot different and harder than it looked from the safety of our childhood haven.
