Being a priest is a job. Your second question has also been answered.

Yeah, of course it's a job! Of course, some work harder at it than others. Some can get extra money, some can't.

Diocesan priests, or those who are under direct rule from the Bishop, Archbishop, or Cardinal of the area do not take vows of poverty and, therefore, can also have added income. I knew a priest who drove a BMW sports car convertible because his family owned a clock and watch shop that was very successful and he was an only child to whom the shop was passed on. He was breaking no rules. Most diocesan priests, however, are not so fortunate and have to survive off their monthly salary of about $3,000 and gifts from family and friends.

Priests who join a community like the Oblates of St. Francis, for example, DO take a vow of poverty and would be breaking their vow if they lived like that first priest example I gave. They would not be allowed to own the shop--or a car. Some are able to receive small gifts of money, though, like for their birthdays and Christmas, depending on the community.

There is no commission for saving souls.

(I wrote about Catholic priests. I think Father K is Episcopalian and they may do things differently.)

It relies upon on the denomination of the priest. In Australia a Roman Catholic Priest is supplied with loose lodging and nutrition. On good of this they obtain a small stipend of roughly $11000 in step with 3 hundred and sixty 5 days so as that they could furnish for inner maximum products, save for vacations and so on. An Anglican Priest may well be generally provided with an area of abode for which they might pay a subsidsed lease. They pay for his or her own nutrition and so on. subsequently they're paid a revenue closer (yet nonetheless below) the final workers revenue. presently approximately $47000 - that's not a lot once you think approximately maximum Anglican monks are married and have toddlers.

A priest works a 24/7/365 day job. They are on call at all times.

Priests do not get paid in the sense that people in the business world are paid.

However, priests receive monetary compensation to provide for necessities, to buy and maintain an automobile, to take vacations, and to do normal recreational activities.

Also, priests are provided room and board by the parish for which they work.

Priest take a vow of poverty

More than a "job" - it's a "vocation". As for $$$: Pretty much just a monthly stipend. Travel expenses if we have to leave the Diocese. And some parishioners will give to our "discretionary fund" from time to time.

I also make some extra money because I am on the staff of a local cemetery/mortuary, and I do funerals for them.

There's also the occasional wedding.

No "commission", I'm afraid.
