Please, no angry answers! I'm not asking for the reasons you don't believe in God. I'm asking what an atheist would rely on instead of God. Is it philosophy, or science, or ....what? I'll be up-front with you...I'm a Christian, but I'm not looking to debate. I only want to try and understand another point of view.

Saintly people performed miracles from the grace of God not from any power that they initially hold.
The Church created saints as icons and idols that you can pray to if you get sick, if you are travelling somewhere or if you lost your pen cap and want to find it. They have erected statues and buildings in their name (not God's or Jesus'). They have created specific prayers to specific saints and promote their allegence. Does this not take away prayer and thought from God?
Throughout history God has demanded people to pray to Him not earthly figures or idols.
So are saints blasphemous?

Religions make us feel that we know the truth and that we are the center of everything when in fact the universe is so large that even our minds can't imagine(literally). Why can't we believe the fact that we developed from single-cell organisms?

Perhaps a similar question has been asked before, but what I want to know is basically how honest people are ...

Whatever your religious persuasion, how sure are you that it is entirely correct?

If you are a Christian, are you persuaded by Pascal's wager; that it's the safest way, or do you honestly believe everything the Bible says?

If you are a Pagan, do you believe in various gods? Do you think you've "got it right", or do you think that you are simply following one of many possible courses?

If you are an atheist, are you certain there is no god? What proof would convince you otherwise?

What I'm wondering is how certain people really are; how honest can you be? Do you think there is a possibility that you have deceived yourself? Do you really think it's possible to have all of the facts; to be entirely correct about such things?

I always think that after marriage, a muslima should obey her husband's order as long as her husband doesn't ask something forbidden in Islam.
Muslima, what do you think about that?
Do you ever think that marriage will take your freedom?
What things a Muslima should prepare before marriage?

Just wondering what your personal points are that make you feel as though there is a God/Creator/Supernatural Being/etc. that is up there. No funny stuff, I promise.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Obviously this applies to those that believe in a Creator.

Through my other questions people have answered that the NT is the fullfillment of the OT. That a messiah was prophesized and Jesus Christ was the fullfillment of that prophesy. What if that was an easy (and perhaps inaccurate) justification of the early church fathers to start THEIR religion? That would also mean the NT is also fiction. There is no proof that Jesus resurrected, that our sins are forgiven or that the NT holds truth.
Now 2000 years ago every city had a messiah. And alot of those messiahs had followers. Sure their religion is not around today but perhaps Jesus had a better PR campain not to mention the Catholic Church has a history of destroying other religions.
If you were born in Israel or India or Egypt your perspective of Jesus could be very different. Therefore is the power of a religion - its faithfull followers - as fragile as the family that you were born into?

(And which country are you from?)

Please, be sincere.

I do right now. All of sudden, and due to a bad experience (loss of my job, death of a friend, family issues...) I started questioning everything around me : God, my religion, my career, life, death love, friendship...
I feel like there's a thousand questions for which I have no answer. Anyone passed through a moment like this, and how did you get over it?

I am no sinner... You may be but that is your issue - do introspection and forgive yourself, change and move on. I am satisfied with who I am. I am a good person. I do not need your religious philosophy to try and make me one. I know what will happen to me when I die and I am not afraid. My micro organism (body) will become integrated with the other micro organisms (plants, insects, animals, bacteria) which form the collective macro organism (the Earth). So too will my energy, spirit or soul follow the same path and become part of the Earth's energy, spirit or soul - whatever you want to call it. In approximately 6.4 billion years, give or take a few million the Earth will die and integrate with the rest of the universe. This I know as scientific fact the rest is pure religious speculation. Good bye to you all and thank you for the entertainment. I shall leave this section before I am condemned by mentally blind and narrow minded sheep again... It wont bother, just irritate

I've seen many people refer to the people in the Bible as "primitive." Perhaps they were, but are we any better? Are we REALLY?
What have we REALLY learned over the past four thousand years since the Bible was written? Better ways to kill thousands of people at once? Better and easier ways to hurt each other? Better ways to tear apart families (adultery, for example)? Better ways to screw up our kids? More powerful biological weapons?
So which is better, a community in which people mostly treated each other with respect and held on to each other, a community where poor childless widows were ALWAYS taken care of, a community where everything was shared...or what we have now?
Do we honestly call the world now PROGRESS?
Is this smug superiority warranted? Any thoughts?
Almost out of room, I want to edit this with one more thing:
(Details to follow....)

I used to be very faithful. I prayed, read the bible and so on. But after my boyfriend left me, I was not very faithful. All I wanted was revenge on my ex for treating me badly and abandoning me. I was beginning to to all hope, so I quit reading the bible and praying. How do I get closer to God again?

Genesis 1:31
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Genesis 6:6
The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.

So God was first satisfied with creating man, and called his work "very good," and then he regretted creating man and was grieved.

1 Samuel 2:30-31
30 "Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: 'I promised that your house and your father's house would minister before me forever.' But now the LORD declares: 'Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.
31 The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your father's house, so that there will not be an old man in your family line

So God did change, and he disowned/nullified his previous vow/promise/declaration

Just out of interest, why did the Bible say:

"They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man........Now kill all the boys [innocent kids]. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. (Numbers 31:7,17-18)"

It says “save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man” therefore it means “save the virgin girls so you can have sex with them”

Monkeys have bad images and ideas tied to them, so how about horses or eagles or tigers? These species are much more symbolic and respectable to most people.

I need to prove that God exists and that Jesus was not a fraud to an atheist/humanist. I can not quote the bible because the atheist does not think that the bible is a valid source of information. Any help would be appreciate! No sarcasm please, or mean comments. Constructive help only!
