Seriously, there is so much fighting in the Religion & Spirituality section. He could help settle the big arguments.

And just to clarify, I don't mean someone posing as Him, I mean the real God.

Just look at how many people religions employ and how much money is transacted in the name of religion. Think of how many people would be without a job without religion. Think of how much money is made is made in the selling of religious books and artifacts. Don't you think that this world would be a better place without religious organizations?

For the last 30 years, at some point during the course of the day, I have mentally called out into the cosmos for a god (any god) to appear, to speak to me, to perform a miracle of my choosing, to present some sort of empirical evidence of its existence.

He (she/it) never shows.

Amazing as it sounds, every day I am met with silence. Mind you, I am totally open-minded and accepting of any and all evidence in this daily test, but I do require that it be REAL, TANGIBLE evidence... something that another human being can verify (I am just too honest and frank to try and pawn personal coincidence and anecdotes off as evidence.)

You would think after 10,000+ times I would have given up, but no! I'm no quitter. Such is my determination to give your Christianity a fair shake. In fact, I dare say I am the most open-minded atheist on earth.

What more could you ask for?

We all know it is necessary for salvation..but what about sanctification?
Romans 6:1-7 “Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more kindness and forgiveness? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we became Christians and were baptized to become one with Christ Jesus, we died with Him? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with Him in His death, we will also be raised as He was. Our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.”

The books of Deutoronomy, numbers, exodus, etc. describe how God ordered the israelites to slaughter men, women , and children of tribes to which israel was to conquer in order to obtain their "promised land".

The hebrew law also orders the stoning of homosexuals, as well as your own daughter or wife if they choose to worship other gods.

The law also puts a course if anyone is to go outside the "holy book" to obtain moral guidance.

It is a rainy friday night in the year 2007. the world has improved quite a bit since the bible was written. Although thanks to this "God" we are still faced with war and serious problems.

How could you honestly, reasonably believe that the bible was wholy inspired by God.

Is it possible that israelite leaders used this "God" to control and pursue their own agendas back when israel was formed?

The explanation that the law was written for those times does not justify the behavior and values of "God"

I ask this because it seems to me that believers, no matter what the belief, all seem to share similar facial expressions. They range from the relaxed and comfortable expressions of the uneducated believers to the determined and intense expressions of the educated believers who have more knowledge to constantly deny in order to maintain the equilibrium of their beliefs. There’s also the infamous expression of the fanatical zealot the existence of whom would make software of this nature quite beneficial.

If u look back u can see that most all religions start with the virgin birth and most want people to be bonded b4 they have any intercorse. I assume that all religions just want power over its followers but why stiffle a source of human happeiness like that.

I try every day to convince my friends to make good decisions and follow Jesus. But every time I bring up the subject of Christianity, they freak out and give me weird looks. They think I'm insane, but when we aren't discussing religion, they are great friends.
I can't stop being their friend, but it's so hard that i am the only Christian in my grade and that I can't help my friends, no matter how hard I try. I am really upset and don't know what to do.

Vatican Newspaper Denounces Intelligent Design
By Nicole Winfield - Associated Press (posted January 19, 2006 12:03 PM ET)

VATICAN CITY -- The Vatican newspaper has published an article saying "intelligent design" is not science and that teaching it alongside evolutionary theory in school classrooms only creates confusion.

The article in Tuesday's editions of L'Osservatore Romano was the latest in a series of interventions by Vatican officials -- including the pope -- on the issue that has dominated headlines in the United States.
