There is a certain drug which some voodoo practitioners use which causes a state of near-death to occur. There are numerous cases where someone in this state is buried, only to wake up in a coffin from which they must escape. These people are forever incapable of living a normal life anymore since the drug causes brain damage. Imagine if you went to your neighbor's funeral and then saw him walking around with a blank stare on his face the next day. People believe them to be zombies, but they aren't. They are basically walking coma patients.

There is only one case considered to be true by many involving a zombie. The story goes that after three days, this person rose from the dead, and this predates the practice of voodoo by many centuries. By rule, since he would have been a zombie, he would have had to run around eating human flesh. Strange, the Bible left that part out.
