Sam D, alot of people also benefit from the work of ministries. Have you ever been overseas to Africa, Asia, or South Ameria and seen how churches which are legitimate for God are doing a great work? Hospitals are being built, they recieved clothing, shooling, teaching, food, and shelter. Not only do churches do it overseas, but they do it here in the United States. Where would you rather see it go? Where it's been going? To the drug dealers, organized crime, scandals, casinos, racketeering, prostitution or some other illegal scandal. Yeah, these things are really helping turn the world around for the better. At least at the church, the prostitute is turning her life around. The person who struggled with cancer or diabetes for years gets healed totally in a church. And drug addicts get delivered and the poor and homeless find hope and a door opens to get off the street. People are about to get there wish. If you don't want God, then you are about to find out what life is like with out Him. The scripture clearly says, "If you forsake Him, He will forsake you". But for the believer times will be good.

If that is true, then I can tell you that much more than "religious organizations" appear to be "money making schemes", and that includes most of what operates here in America, including the medical professions and hospitals, and lawyers and courts, and governmental bureaucracies to name but a few, but extremely important "organizations". So, if we applied your thinking, "that this world would be a better place without" these "money making schemers", well, wouldn't we have a desolate place to live. Or are you just expressing your "anti-religion / anti-church" prejudice in the form of a "question". God Bless you.

Once when president clinton was put into office he asked for ways to help pay off the national debt. One of the men on the panel said that there is billions of dollars in these religious organizations. It is the publics money donated to help the public what better way to help than to pay off the national debt. Why do we need these religious organizations that take in billions suposedly to help the poor and starving children when to date very little if any of that money goes to help anyone but the big CEO's at the top and the TV Evangelists are the worst. While they ask for donations for the poor they have air conditioned dog houses and gold faucets in their bathrooms. Few kings lived as well as they do with fleets of jets and limo service standing ready at all times to jet them anywhere they want to go.
They are making more money than movie stars.
He said, "I am not saying get rid of religion, you can continue to believe in God but do we need these religious organizations when the government is established to help the senior citizens and the poor and FEMA for diasters.
Of course at that time the government worked when it came to diaster relief. But if we could change the government into a working establishment again and use the money that is in these religious organizations and have these religious leaders get a real job.

Jehovahs Witness dont pass around a plate, they dont hold rund raisers trying to raise money for say the "Church" & than go buy a mansion, they dont sell their books, they dont demand a 10th of your paycheck, they dont employ anyone or hire anyone, they dont sell religious artifacts, they dont advertise on commercials et et...This is the only religion I have ever found that doesnt do any of these things. Each member donates what he feels he wants or can, when he wants to, they are not told to do this, its voluntary & its done in private in a little donation box that goes to building their own Kingdom Halls or paying utilities, or to make their own books at the publishing headquarters. Each Kingdom Hall is built by members of the organization...They all donate their time & energy to do this...noone is paid...they are a loving organization who does not revolve around money whatsoever...

It has its pros and cons.
There are so many good things being done as well. Outside US, there are religious organizations that help provide free medical care, schooling, shelter, etc. All those involved have jobs to take care of themselves and their families.
As they said 'With great power come great responsibilites'. And when the power is unquestioned, there is a lot of scope for abuse. Which is what causes all this plethora of problems.
It is the greed of those few individuals in power that tarnish the good work of the good folks around. Such a pity.

Religions are about power and control. Money is just one of the way to achieve this. That is why some religions have more, and some have less.

Nah, I have been to "churches" that were a half dozen people, and they used the money to buy bibles to send to prisons and buy hotdogs for socials.
True - there are a lot of them.....but most aren't, and thats the important thing to remember
