We have an 8-year-old dog named Pandora, whom we call "Dora". This weekend we are going to buy a male. We want to name him after a greek god or mythological creature and she thought you all would have some good suggestions.
Can you help us out? Name our dog!

He is a golden retriever - like his big sister Dora. By the pics on the website, he's going to be light colored and is very sweet-natured.

Zero, I liked Dionyses too but Jack said "I am NOT calling my dog something weird like Dion!" Grrrr! Dionyses was my favorite.

~~~~THANK YOU ALL~~~~
You've given us so many great ideas and we're having a blast shouting puppy names around the house (we have friends over and they love the fun too). You've gone to such trouble and have such good ideas! Thanks!
We even like the one "Your daughter is damned to hell" but it's a little longish!
Diogenes. What better dog name than the original cynic? Plus "Dodge" is a great nickname.
Hercules. "Herc" is a good dog name; one syllable that you can shout.
How about Zeus or Vulcan -- manly sounding names, the pair of them. (Hephaestus just doesn't quite cut it somehow. By the time you got done yelling, "Hephaestus, get out of the garbage can!", he could have an entire bag of trash down the doggy hatch.)
Apollo or Ares is another possibility, or maybe Ceberus. You could call him "Ceb" for short -- a play on words for Dora's "sibling."
Personally, I like Anubis, the Egyptian jackal-headed god of the dead, but that's probably not appropriate for his coloration. Good luck with the final decision!
as great as you can put it, but it seems to general. When you ask for a puppy thats "So in short, if you have a Black Tri, that is male, sociable, trainable, loving, gentle, active and has a good standard," thats basically asking for the perfect/ ideal pup. What you may want to do if you decide to enter them in sports contests, ask for the larger pup of the litter or the one that has developed most. just a suggestion from someone whose had a sports dog another good dog that is alike the aussie with the same needs are most of the medium to large herding dogs
I think you should name it Salad.
Or 5th.
Or Dionysus.
*edit* Yeah, I like Dionysus too. Maybe you should explain the mythology behind the name; it might seem "cooler" then.
Check it out:
Rock star Jim Morrison, the lead singer of The Doors, often compared himself to (and was compared to by others) Dionysus. It was Doors keyboard player Ray Manzarek who made the comparison first, and in turn Jim called Ray Apollo. Similarities between Morrison and Dionysus include love of song, wine, women, and a sense of poetry. Dionysus ended up becoming one of Morrison's nicknames.
I think Minotaur would be a interesting, different name. I also like Apollo or Mercury.
We actually got a kitten for our kids last weekend, and the kids wanted to name him "God" (they're 7 and 5). They finally decided on Fluffy.
Well its a bit long but the titan who was Pandora's husband was called Epimethius. Cerberus or Kerberos was the three headed dog from mythology who guarded the underworld, Hades. But have fun with your new dog whatever you call it.
Homer. I know he's not a god but I think it would make a good retriever name, plus when you call for him in a public setting you sound litterate. Although you do run the risk of some morons thinking you named him after the cartoon character.
Maybe Oedipus. you couild call him "edddy" for short.
