Why are we content to trust our instinct with simple things
(judging someone new, choosing a career, choosing a spouse, etc.) but can't rely on our instinct, to prove the existence of God?

I am sure your instinct has saved you many times.
Why is it hard to trust our instinct when it comes to prove or disprove the existence of God?

What does your instinct tell you?

Do you do these good things only because your religion tells you to do them? Or, do you think you would do them, anyway, even if you had no religion in your life?

Why or why not?

For Epicurus, the purpose of philosophy was to attain the happy, tranquil life, characterized by the absence of pain and fear, and by living a self-sufficient life surrounded by friends. He taught that pleasure and pain are the measures of what is good and bad, that death is the end of the body and the soul and not to be feared, that the gods do not reward or punish humans, that the universe is infinite and eternal, and that events in the world are ultimately based on the motions and interactions of atoms moving in empty space.

Epicurus was often vilified as favoring the uninhibited pursuit of pleasure (hedonism), however he invariably counseled restraint and temperance with respect to physical desires.

Why should I fear death?
If I am, death is not.
If death is, I am not.
Why should I fear that which
cannot exist when I do?

Please don't base your arguments on the actions of the religion's adherants. Explain by using the religion's beliefs, rites, Holy persons etc.

This is what I try my best to do. There are things that jsut do not seem knowable, for instance, why any one god is better than another (NOT the people representing the gods, like Falwell and Osama), or whether there is a god with a consciousnees, instead of a Supreme Law of Being, taht pervades every level of existence, without forcing anythign or being aware of everything?
Who knows
Who really cares? OK, a lot of you. But why? Aren'tt here enough basic Golden Rules that we can choose to be decent, and feel guilt for not, and punish others until better behavior is shown? Can't we have compassion without some UberBeing?
Can't we just breathe in the Mystery and know that the better we do, the better off we are?

I don't know if I phrased this well. I'm not an anglosaxone.
But I mean, dare you (or would you) say half what you say here, in real life?

There are thousands and thousands of various denominations within Christianity. And within this forum I read many posts and I can see that there is much confusion over the fact of who is God and what is his name? Some people do not equate Jesus as God, some believe God is existing in 3 seperate persons, some do not. If God is 3 seperate persons do they have the same power and authority? And If God is not in 3 persons who and what is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

Most people believe that a person goes to heaven at death. Others say that a person go to the grave where they are sleep(unconscious) until the second coming of Christ(at the end of the world).

Why would Jesus Call Lazarus from the dead if he automatically went to heaven at the time of his death?

Why would Lazarus want to come back to the earth if he had made it up to heaven?

Which is it? Sleep in the grave or in Heaven at ones death?
