There are thousands and thousands of various denominations within Christianity. And within this forum I read many posts and I can see that there is much confusion over the fact of who is God and what is his name? Some people do not equate Jesus as God, some believe God is existing in 3 seperate persons, some do not. If God is 3 seperate persons do they have the same power and authority? And If God is not in 3 persons who and what is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

Hi ansearcher@sbcglobal.n... The Bible tells us without a doubt of the deity of Christ because he was God Almighty Himself. In John 1:1 God tells us He is the Word:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

In John 1:14 God tells us the Word is Jesus:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

We read in Genesis 1:1 that God created the world:

“in the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth”

In Hebrews 1:1-2 God reveals that it was Jesus that created the world:

“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;”

In Colossians 1:16-17, Jesus is called the creator of the world:

“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him“.

When we look at these verses and tie them to Genesis 1:1 we see that Jesus is the Creator. Since Christ is the Creator, He is God.

In Hebrews 1:8 God calls Jesus God:

“But to the Son He says:“ Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.”

We know from reading Isaiah 43:11 that God is telling us there is no Saviour besides Him:

“I, even I, am the LORD, And besides Me there is no savior.”

Jesus is the Savior. We read in Matthew 1:21:

“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”

When we look at the Bible in its entirety we can see without a doubt that Jesus Christ is God Himself.

To break your question into its constituent parts:

A) There are currently 368 separate, recognized denominations in Christianity, not counting those individual churches whose membership comprises the whole of their followers, nor those the Council of Churches deems cults, ie the way-out-there-in-left-field types.

B) Arthur C. Clarke once wrote a science-fiction story, "The Nine Billion Names of God", the gist of which was that God had 9 billion names and that the purpose of humanity was to enumerate them all. A delivery of a supercomputer to a monastery of Tibetan monks provided said monks the means to do so and as the story ends and the computer tech is headed back to civilization the last sentence reads, "And as he jolted down the mountainside, overhead, quietly, without any fuss, the stars were going out." Creepy.

C) The mystery of the Trinitarian nature of God is a toughie, dealing as it does with a Being both infinite and eternal, neither of which we are. God the Father is NOT God the Son nor is He God the Holy Spirit. They are three very different People. BUT, they share ONE nature, a divine nature. Being eternal, ie, without beginning or end, this has always been so and will always be so. Technically only those people who accept that Jesus of Nazareth is both truly God and truly Man can be called "Christian" since that is the meaning of the word. If you do not accept this article of faith, you may call yourself what you will, but that will NOT make you a Christian any more than calling a rose a skunk cabbage will make its scent offensive.

D) All three Persons share the same divinity, all share the power of that divinity, ie, omnipotence, BUT each utilizes that power according to their Personhood. God the Father creates with it. God the Son redeems with it and God the Holy Spirit guides with it.

E) All three Persons share the authority which goes with being equally divine in Their shared nature, BUT each uses that authority in accordance with their different Personhoods. God the Father speaks the word and whatever He wills to be IS. God the Son speaks the word and whatever He calls saved IS saved. God the Holy Spirit speaks the word and whomever He teaches learns.

Hope this helped.

There is no such thing as a trinity, that was a politically motivated doctrine that the Roman emperor Constantine the Great invented and imposed. It's history and only the ones who wants to stay blind are not able to look for it. There is only one true God, "YHWH", the Father, that's it. All the other names and titles are just twistings that some people are using to justify the fact that they have no religious beliefs.

The God of the Bible (the true God) exists in three separate but equal persons. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They are not the same as each other, but they are all one God. (Impossible to wrap our minds around, I realize... but that's why we're not God, we're humans). They exist in three persons to do different things. For example, God the Son incarnated as a human to be the sacrifice for our sins. Fully God and fully man so that he could die for us, but then rise from the dead to complete the sacrifice. And God the Holy Spirit indwells every believer to guide him/her to live their life in a God-honoring way.
This is the God of the Bible. The Bible makes it clear that in the beginning, all three persons of the Trinity were there. "Let us make man in our image," God said. And throughout the New Testament, Jesus continually makes it clear that he is God. "I and the Father are one." "Before Abraham was, I am." And at Christ's baptism, all three persons of the Trinity were present. Jesus was baptized, God said, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.", and the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus like a dove.

This is all hard to comprehend, given our finite minds, but if you're looking for the true nature of God, the Bible tells us what I've just written. He's a holy, just, all-knowing, omnipresent God who demands holiness but provides grace to all who believe.

Think about this - Has anyone seen God? The Bible says they have not. Has anyone seen Jesus Christ? They have, He was on the earth for 33 and a half years. Therefore, he cannot be God. Although he is the son of God, but not the same. Jesus prayed to God, he wasn't praying to himself. He said that he was sent to do God's will, not his own.

If he was God, why wouldn't he want us to know that? Do you think he wanted people to be confused about who he is?
God's name IS in the Bible, the oiginal one, over 7,000 times. But MEN have taken it out, because they think you should not know the name. But it's God's personal name. I have a name and you have a name, if everyone were all called by just woman, or man, that would be confusing wouldn't it? God's personal name, the one in the Bible found 7,000+ times is Jehovah (YHWH).

God is God our Heavenly Father, Jesus His Son, Holy Spirit - all God - all Godhead - God in three persons - Elohim (which means three Gods). But they have different purposes.

God, Heavenly Father - Creator
Jesus, Son - Savior, 100% man and 100% God, God incarnate
Holy Spirit - God within us at time of salvation and Spirit of God that convicts us of our sin

I hope this helps. Blessings dear one.

Christians believe in the Holy Trinity -- Father, Son & Holy Ghost. Father - God; Jesus - God incarnate - Holy spirit - God risen. This is what the holy trinity is.

He called himself Jehovah!
Regardless of other answers look at the names of the prophets who have similar sounding names------drawn from his own.
As for the trinity-----------
From the bible :::::1st Corinthians 15:24,28
24 Next, the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has brought to nothing all government and all authority and power. 25 For he must rule as king until [God] has put all enemies under his feet. 26 As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing. 27 For [God] “subjected all things under his feet.” But when he says that ‘all things have been subjected,’ it is evident that it is with the exception of the one who subjected all things to him. 28 But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone.

Clearly, the trinity is man made.
