This is what I try my best to do. There are things that jsut do not seem knowable, for instance, why any one god is better than another (NOT the people representing the gods, like Falwell and Osama), or whether there is a god with a consciousnees, instead of a Supreme Law of Being, taht pervades every level of existence, without forcing anythign or being aware of everything?
Who knows
Who really cares? OK, a lot of you. But why? Aren'tt here enough basic Golden Rules that we can choose to be decent, and feel guilt for not, and punish others until better behavior is shown? Can't we have compassion without some UberBeing?
Can't we just breathe in the Mystery and know that the better we do, the better off we are?

a like-mind makes me want to hug the world... I don't know why... you are a rarity indeed.

Breathe and Mystery in the same sentence... ooh... tingles.

I think you're under the misapprehension that mystery goes away when you follow a specific faith.

This is in fact not the case at all (I'm a Catholic mystic.) In Catholicism, we call the church the "mystical body of Christ," and all of our sacraments are describes as mysteries. Much of our contemplative prayer focuses on mysteries - things we cannot glimpse the full meaning of, but perhaps we can be like that old Sufi proverb about blind men touching an elephant.

Sometimes going deeper is where the mystery really is - something you really don't see as well when you glaze the surface.

The Bible tells us that we are all sinners and we fall short of the glory of God. No one can be good enough to get to heaven. Heaven is a free gift of salvation from Christ Jesus.

The "Golden Rule" comes straight out of the Bible. Jerry Falwell may not have been a perfect man to you, but He preached the gospel of Jesus Christ. He preached it the best way he knew how. He tried very hard to teach the gospel of Christ in his University. This man stood strong in his beliefs in Christ Jesus. He made mistakes. He sinned.
He got angry, but he loved the Lord. He overcame many obstacles and then the Lord just took him. He was an overcomer and this is good in God's ways.

This is the way, Why we need to become enlightened
To accomplish the vast work of bringing all living beings happiness, especially the peerless happiness of full enlightenment, we need to become enlightened. To guide others perfectly, we need to develop the inner qualities of our mind, especially omniscient wisdom, compassion for all beings, and the perfect power to reveal the methods to help others. These qualities are vital healing ourselves and all other living being. Enlightenment means cessation of ignorance, anger, attachment, and all other unhealthy thoughts, as well as cessation of even their subtle imprints, and completion of all realizations. And enlightenment is achieved through mental development. We nee to develop both compassion and wisdom. We need to develop not only the wisdom that understands conventional reality, especially the causes of happiness and suffering, but also the wisdom that understands ultimate reality, because it is only than that we can eliminate the ignorance that is the root of all suffering and its causes and achieve liberation.

Normally, before we can teach others about literature, philosophy, science, or handicrafts we ourselves need to be qualified to teach. For example, before doctors can train other people to become doctors, they must have the knowledge and clinical skills needed to diagnose even obscure diseases. In a similar why, we cannot lead all living beings to the state of full enlightenment unless we are perfectly qualified through development of the positive qualities of mind, especially compassion and wisdom. Only then can we really help others.

The purpose of our life is to heal single living being’s body and mind of all suffering and its causes and to bring every one of them to the ultimate, everlasting happiness of full enlightenment. Developing our inner qualities of wisdom and compassion is the way to heal our own mind and body, and through this we will then also be able to heal others.

It's not hard to be a decent human being and you don't have to believe in god to manage it.

I do it every day.
