I have to give a talk in church about prayer and how it brings families closer together. I would like to open with something funny, it doesn't have to be a joke about prayer but it has to be oppropriate for church. I don't want websites with jokes or advice, I would like some actual specific lines or jokes I could tell, thanks a lot

I know a very godly woman who is a widow with a lot of kids and grandkids.

Everytime I see here she has the joy of the Lord and she shines like the sun in her face and she is so in love with the Lord and even served as a missionary for a while to Africa,
she is such a joy to be around and she is so beatuiful.

I want to have passion for the Lord that the joy of the Lord shows on my face.

I will be 38 in 2 weeks and as I get older and more matured and seasoned in the Lord I want God to be first in my life.

I am not an evangelist I am an encourager but I want to see people saved and living for the Lord.

My question is what are godly ways to have passion for the Lord and godly zeal for Him?

I recently read a question that was specifically directed to fellow believers in which a young person was asking for opinions based on faith. I was appalled that there were several non-believers that answered. WHY? Can you not keep your opinions to yourself, even when asked? Again, the question was SPECIFICALLY asked to believers. DUH! And you guys accuse christians of overstepping their bonds, better look in the mirror people.

Think about the LARGE majority of questions on here. They are mostly all about Christianity in some form. Rarely do atheists ever post a question about their beliefs.(probably due to fear of us breaking their door down with pamphlets and holy water) Christians rarely post a question about atheist thinking as well. Sadly, the atheists seem idle and under-worked--probably under-compensated as well. Someone will ask Christian questions, seeking counsel, and the atheist with nothing better to do will pop his/her $.02 in with something to the effect of, "God doesn't exist and if he did he would eat your puppies." Don't get me wrong, I enjoy alot of the atheist posts that some take as incisive, because alot of them are just big jokers! Like me, for instance.('cept for the whole "I love Jesus Christ" thing) Basically, when's the last time an atheist asked a decent question?(no offense, well--maybe a little) And can we have one, please?

Why do you speak out against books like Harry Potter and the Da Vinci Code, but completely ignore books like the Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Frankenstein?

The Lord of the Rings is just as in-depth about magic as Harry Potter.

The Chronicles of Narnia makes several direct references to the Bible: calling the children the "Sons of Adam" and "Daughters of Eve", the Tree that bears the fruit in Paradise, the lion (named Aslan) who brings forth life just by his will.

And Frankenstein is a direct reference to bringing life from where there is none.

If you're going to oppress, at least do so fairly please.

Dawkins suggests that God must be incredibly complex to design every atom and listen to every thought, yet most theologians maintain that God is simple. How is that conclusion drawn?

Is there some sort of law or something when it comes to using the Bible as a reference for self-help books and stuff.

How does it work?

why do some people add and subtract from the bible? what you see is what you get, i just hear some people say "oh i believe in jesus christ and heaven but i dont believe in hell", how can you not believe in hell when the bible states that there is? another thing doesnt the bible state that committing suicide in a sin, but yet i hear people say that "not if you have mental disorders, or if you are emotionally distraught? i dont see that written in the bible anywhere, if you committ suicide thats a sin, you cant repent for that. im an agnostic, but im just confused on how people envison God the way they want him to be and not for who he really is written in the bible.

Science Daily — New archeological research from modern-day Jordan indicates the existence of the biblical nation of Edom at least as early as the 10th Century B.C., the era of kings David and Solomon, and adds to the controversy over the historical accuracy of the Old Testament. The full results of the 2002 excavation, by a team of international scholars, at the site of Khirat en-Nahas (or "ruins of copper," in Arabic), are reported in the current issue of the British journal Antiquity.

I mean, dying on the cross is also a nasty business, but come on, murdering your own son for God?!

Wasn't that good enough for God to forgive us for the original sin? Wasn't that enough proof that some humans truly regret the sin of our ancestors and wish to turn back to God?
