Yes, I always go into a violent rage whenever these words are uttered in my presence, causing great harm not only to myself, but to others.

It doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I am not bothered by 10 commandments in a courthouse, the word God on money, or the word God in the pledge.

What would bother me is if I sneezed and a Christian came and told me that when I sneeze my heart stops beating and that it was their god who kept me alive, so I should be thankful.

What would bother me is a courthouse ruling in favor of one or more of the 10 commandments over the state or federal law they are supposed to uphold.

What would bother me is if I had to sign a document acknowledging the existence of a god in order to make a monetary transaction.

What would bother me is if I was required by law to recite the pledge with the word God included.

The presence of a word has no more power than we give it, whether it be God or the F word. People need to lighten up and learn which things in life to take seriously.

To say I have nothing against atheists would be just about the farthest from the truth. I love them, don't get me wrong but they're are tearing down the spiritual community when they talk that nonsense to non-believers or little children just forming opinons.
Now back to your point, It really gets me when they are "offended" when someone says something encouraging to them like "God Bless You" but when they are mad, they don't mind using the Lord's name in vein, do they? How and why would they even use His name in vein if they don't believe in Him? Contradictive just a bit, don't ya think?

Not unless they know that I don't believe in God, and they are doing it just to be a smart alike. You know?

But no when my christian friends say bless you or god bless when I sneeze I don't get offended, I mean it's just a habitual nice gesture. No reason to get offended by that.

But like I said, if they are doing it to be a smart alike, then yeah I get a little offended.

I answer, " Thank you ". The "god" part of it means nothing to me, but I appreciate the thought.
In December, I wish people Merry Christmas. It's just a courtesy . Non-believers can be just as courteous and thoughtful as anyone else. They're usually more so.

No, it is a cultural thing most of the time. I doubt very seriously that many people are actually trying to bring a blessing from a god to me when they say it, they are just trying to be polite.

Not that I mind people trying to bless me, it is just a form of wishing me well.

nobody really says "god bless you" anymore....it's usually just "bless you" and either's fine with me. If they think a sneeze is important enough for god to bless me, maybe I should go to the doctor. I just wish they'd say it when i'm broke or something....when it's REALLY important

It shouldn't...unless they take their beliefs to a religious level.

Atheism isn't a religion, it is a non-theist, a lack of belief. Not anti-god, simply no god.

If someone were to say "god bless you" to them and they got upset, they're likely taking their lack of belief to an extreme belief level.

Why do you consider it "slipping up"? If you truly want God to bless your friend, then say it.

No, I say "bless you" also...It's just courteous. I assume they are not literally saying that the Lord, Jesus will bless me with no more sneezes.

Naw. It's meant to be polite, and I take it in that spirit. Most people around me, like at work, don't know I'm an atheist.
