A friend of mine was conducting a survey, which included as a matter of background information a census of religion. People were asked to check which religion they were, or check "other" and write in their religion if theirs was not listed.

One person neglected to check "Catholic" and instead wrote in "Roman Catholic." Is there a difference?

I don't think there is. I think all Catholics are followers of the Pope, and thus the Vatican, and thus thier religion is Roman-based. Perhaps this person feels that "Catholic" is an disrespectful shorthand for "Roman Catholic?"

Or are there really sects of Catholicism that are not Roman?

What do you think?

The idea of such a powerful nation believing it has God on it's side is really scary.

Wouldn't an atheist president be more able to be pragmatic when dealing with other world leaders?

Wouldn't his decisions me more rational?

Wouldn't he be able to distance himself from prejudice when dealing with middle east issues?

My friends are mostly Christian which comes as no surprise since most Americans are. When they ask me about my beliefs, they act so surprised when I say I'm an atheist. They act like I just murdered someone. They ask, "HOW COULD YOU NOT BELIEVE IN GOD." I don't believe in God for the same reason most Christians believe in God. I was raised an atheist. My father was an atheist and my mother was an agnostic. Most Christians had Christian parents and therefore they are Christian. Even when I give the "my parents were athiests" answer, they still act confused. What gives????

Don't shy away from judging him, Christians. You judge people every day, including on this site, and in the safety of your home while you're watching the 'Larry The Cable Guy' movie.

Again.

It's what I call the number-one cop-out. What basis do Christians have for believing that the Bible is the infallible word of God? It contains self-contradictions by the dozen, is missing tens of chapters, volumes and "gospels" due entirely to deliberate human intervention, and has been demonstrably mistranslated throughout history.

"Sirat Rasulallah" page 515:

"Kinana al-Rabi, who had the custody of the treasure of Banu Nadir, was brought to the apostle who asked him about it. He denied that he knew where it was. A Jew came (Tabari says "was brought"), to the apostle and said that he had seen Kinana going round a certain ruin every morning early. When the apostle said to Kinana, "Do you know that if we find you have it I shall kill you?" He said "Yes". The apostle gave orders that the ruin was to be excavated and some of the treasure was found. When he asked him about the rest he refused to produce it, so the apostle gave orders to al-Zubayr Al-Awwam, "Torture him until you extract what he has." So he kindled a fire with flint and steel on his chest until he was nearly dead. Then the apostle delivered him to Muhammad b. Maslama and he struck off his head, in revenge for his brother Mahmud."

Jesus was the Messiah for the Jews and part of the Covenant through Isaac.

JUDAISM IS THE COVENANT GIVEN TO ISAAC.

ISLAM IS THE COVENANT GIVEN TO ISHMAEL.

Genesis 017:009-10 ---Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.
This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.

Galatians 05:002 ---- Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.

Stephen Hawking is the Great Physicist who basically created the field of Black Hole Physics. He is perhaps the most famous living scientist. Some say that he has put Einstein to shame. He has openly supposted the theory of Evolution and the big bang theory. I overheard someone say that Stephen Hawking is the Devil in the flesh. Have christians really decided that everyone who gets involved in science is evil???
