There are many who don't understand why some of the stories that report horrible behavior were included in the OT. They think that inclusion meant approval.
Many of the gruesome and evil things that people did back then were recorded to help us to learn not to repeat their mistakes. Sometimes, the scribes were just reporting history.
One day, when people read about some of the things that have gone on in the 20th & 21st centuries, they may think that we were all barbarians. (Abortion, obsession with sex, widespread homosexuality, almost continual war and hatred, etc.) But that would not be a complete picture. I hope that future generations will get a chance to see us in a better light.

The scripture isn't evil. Evil is revealed by scripture. And then you need to have understanding to know the difference between the two.
