I would not be offended about this. Maybe if the kindergarten teacher was taking your child aside and telling him he needed to be Christian, accept Jesus, etc then you would have something to be angry about. However, a five year old doesn't know what he or she is doing. He wasn't trying to do anything wrong. It is very likely that if for some reason he had these cards he gave them to everyone in the class, not just your son.
Did it really damage your son that bad? It is just a card, and chances are if your son got upset about it, it was because he saw you upset about it.
The best way to handle the matter would be to just say that there are a lot of people out there, and there are a lot of different religious beliefs. So maybe Jesus may not be needed in whatever faith you belong to, but it is best to teach children acceptance of others.

Why would you be offended? I would think it would make you smile. Your son took the card. He sounds like a good kid. The way you handled the situation is your son's view of you. If you do not agree with the information on the card, you could have said..."It sounds like so and so wants to be your friend." That is probably the real reason the other kid handed your son the card. What damage to your son? The only damage I see is that you taught him hate and rejection.

ya know, if you hadn't made such a big deal about it, your son wouldn't either..... I agree that kids should not be freely passing out religious stuff in school (unless they GO to a religious school (ie... catholilc school, hebrew school, hindu school, etc)... But as someone else here pointed out---these are 2 FIVE YEAR OLD KIDS---practically BABIES and the child who passed out the religious card has no clue what he is doing---one of his parents handed him the cards and as a good son, he did what his parent told him and tried to pass them out.... what SHOULD be done is that the parents should be contacted BY THE SCHOOL and told that they should not have their child passing out these cards at school... DO NOT handle it YOURSELF... go in and CALMLY speak to the principal about it and have HER or the school superintentant call the other child's family......and say NO MORE ABOUT it to your child or any other parent in the community-----you don't want a bunch of angry adults storming the school and publicly "linching this poor little 5 year old"....

Excuse me, but how is that hatred? All the kid did was hand your son a card with a religious quote on it! The little kid was innocent! He didn't condemn your son for being an atheist or tell him he was going to burn in hell. Would you call it hatred if your son handed the Christian kid a card with evolution on it? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. It's called freedom of speech. If you don't like it, then you shouldn't live in the USA.

A Christians hatred?? I thought the whole point of Christianity was love.
Maybe you should understand that it's kindergarten. That means it's 5 and 6 yr olds. They aren't exactly known for pushing their philosophical and religious beliefs onto others. Most likely he was told to do it.
People get offended way to easily these days

Boy oh boy. I apologies for all Christians in the world that a small boy tried to show his faith.. and share what he was taught to be right. I guess you need to spend more time with your son if he was so moved by such a simple gesture that his faith was shattered. Get real.

I'd have a word with the kindergarten teacher and tell her another kid is handing out religious propaganda in the classroom.
What the heck does a kindergartener know about jesus anyway? He's obviously being put up to it by his parents.

Are you trying to brainwash your kid with YOUR beliefs then. I think the kid should hear Both sides and decide for himself when he is older. My students ask me all the time about such things, and I give them explanations but I never tell them 'this is right' or 'this is wrong'. I let them decide, having weighed and considered each argument. Relax
