I asked yesterday if people would save their child if they ran into the street and were about to get hit by a car or if they would trust that God's plan wasn't to let the child die at that point in time or not. People claimed that we have free will and God's plan would interfere with that. My question today is, how come the child getting hit by the car would be the free will of the child, or the driver causing the accident, but someone getting a horrible disease and dying is suddenly "God's will"? How can it be free will in one place and "God's will" in another?

I have x-caltholic,muslim,christian friends who all claim their background religions as part of them...I however no longer practice christianity ...Did years ago but I feel it no longer defines me...I think many muslims say that as well...in fact many ask their friends (from dominate muslim countries) what religion they are when meeting them....I think if you no longer practice then they should no longer claim...
Any thoughts?

if someone claimed they were the son of God, born to a virgin, the same kit-and-kaboodle as the Jesus story, would any Christian person believe him to really be the son of God in the same way Jesus was?

if so, why would you believe him without proof?

if not, why would you believe that the Jesus in the Bible was truly the son of God?

Whats the difference between someone claiming to be the son of God, and someone actually being the son of God? Can it be proven?

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Vatican's second-highest ranking doctrinal official on Monday forcefully branded homosexual marriage an evil and denounced abortion and euthanasia as forms of "terrorism with a human face."
The attack by Archbishop Angelo Amato, secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was the latest in a string of speeches made by either Pope Benedict or other Vatican officials as Italy considers giving more rights to gays

Are the energies of the Vatican a little misdirected? From what I've read about Jesus, it seems to me he was more concerned about feeding hungry people. Lord knows there are plenty of those to keep us occupied for a while.

I myself do not believe in any kind of god but am saddened that i am thought of as a wicked and bad person. I am a warm, loving and kind individual who would see no harm come to anyone else so why do you all say nasty things like i'll spend eternity in hell unless I turn to your belief system? Isn't just being a good person enough to let me live my life in peace?

So many people have personified God as being a man. You can find images of a big old man with a long beard (sounds almost like Santa) All I'm saying is that if God is meant to be great and above the human race, not as in looking down on us, but as a glorified greater good. We want people to be on the same level and I guess this is why some people take God down to the same level, they don't want anything above them?
Another reason could be that the Bible was written by men?
In a lot of quotations it is easy to see a glint of male chauvinism. (of course it is to be add that the times were different back then and the woman was below the man)
I only find it striking that these words are still followed..

And what do you think about the new scripts found, that are to be Jesus words? It's quite catchy..

And the view shown in the books and movie "The mystery of Lenardo Da Vinci"...

It is a lot of thoughts I know I'm honestly just curious to see what people ((women)) think...?

When Christians berate you for not being hung up on the guilt, misery and martyrdom of their faith/lives? Kind of like a starving man telling a restaurant owner that he has less access to sustenance. Are you a joyful atheist, do you truly love life? I do, I relish it.

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Ok, I am not religious in anyway at all, but a religious group in my area are causing me a lot of hassle saying i support what the lord doesnt or some crap like that.

BEsically because i support gay rights, civil partnerships, equal rights for all and i dont take my children to church, i am a bad person.
I have taken my children out of their RE lessons in school because i dont want them thinking religion is the way to go and i want them to make their own decisions. They know to respect others no matter what their beliefs and all, they have even taken abuse from this group and not retaliated because they dont want to hurt their feelings.

How can i get them to stop? I have called the police on several occasions but they always go when i do and the police cant catch them. I have a camera in my front garden so i have them on tape throwing stuff at my door and breaking windows and everything.

And im the bad one?

Why?
