I have x-caltholic,muslim,christian friends who all claim their background religions as part of them...I however no longer practice christianity ...Did years ago but I feel it no longer defines me...I think many muslims say that as well...in fact many ask their friends (from dominate muslim countries) what religion they are when meeting them....I think if you no longer practice then they should no longer claim...
Any thoughts?

I would agree with you. Yet it has become common in our world today to link to some type of religious teachings. There are certainly more people claiming to be Christians in today's world than their are those that understand what the title actually means.

Question... why do you choose not to practice your religious beliefs any longer?

They're identifying by culture. Many religions are also cultures, and they envelop families for generations. Cultural things get folded up in them. Jews have a very distinct culture, for example, even when they don't practice their religion.

I think it's best to let people define these things for themselves.

Why should your belief in something waver simply because you don't practice your religion's traditions? My mother doesn't pray, doesn't go to church, and doesn't preach yet she still believes in God, creation, etc.
