Why is there so much raping, killing, slaughtering, war, disease, plagues,... in it ? Some christs are concerned their kids might pick up bad influence on tv, but the Bible beats them all...

Is there farting in heaven? And if so do you still have to play the blame game with it? Also you know that feeling you get when you go in a room and you forget why you went in there do you still get that, in that case what about deja vu? You still get that like right as soon as you die and your in line at the pearlie gates do you get a feeling that you been there before because it has the same paint job as the office you work at?

In the Bible,everyone has names like "John," "David," "James," etc. These are obviously not their real names, because they speak Hebrew, Roman, etc. But these are all English names. Did someone just decide, "Oh, well I'm gonna name him John and him James."?

Do you think that people are so confused about the VTech shootings that they are coming here for answers? It seems completely inappropriate to me, just my opinion, but I am having a hard time reading some of the insane, insensitive questions being posted?

Dear God

I want to tell you how new-born you can make me feel;

how saddened I am by the weight you carry in your mind;

God, how I fail with you; but how you give me hope, and a place to be;

how you console me when I want to quit;

how you keep me looking at myself;

my pride in the meaning of our life together;

how we saved each other from loneliness and more dying;

because you make me feel better than I would;

as if we said, "Here. This way. This is where I belong."

I have a friend who spends 45 minutes every single day reading the Bible. He knows it in and out, backwards and forwards. He kind of makes me feel bad because I'm not putting that much into my Bible study. How about you?

My friend's daughter (8 years old) is taking her first holy communion next month. I was invited to attend the ceremony and a reception afterwards. I am not Catholic, but the family means a lot to me and I would like to attend. My questions are as follows:

What should I expect to see? Will it be strange? Lengthy?

What should I wear? (I am a male)

Am I expected to bring a gift? A card? Flowers?

What is an approriate congratulations for this? Am I expected to say something to her?

Is there anything else that might be helpful for me to know before I go?

If you read Kenneth Hagin, there are different kinds of demons. The rulers of the darkness of this age are the ones that actually possess a person, that person is usually unsaved. The wicked spirits in heavenly places, principalities, and powers are not as severe as the rulers. If you look into the gunman's eyes you will get a fiery hot feeling, so don't look too long, but that is a demon in there. Read Kenneth Hagin's Demon series and don't dis everything I just said just because I am a woman or because it is too far out. Yes, this S. Korean kid may have gotten bad grades or have gotten dumped by a girlfriend but he WAS demon possessed just like Hitler probably was.

I am so disgusted by some people on here.

33 people died... and what are a lot (NOT ALL) of you doing? Trying to blame it on Satan - Asking where God was - Saying he was an Atheist - Blaming it on lack of God in schools - Saying he was a brain washed fundie

WHY ARE YOU ASKING THIS?!

This is a very FRESH and sensitive subject - why not let people start to heal before objectifying this? For crying out loud, parents lost their children, loved ones are lost and you are trying to put blame on Satan or questioning God's whereabouts?

This shooter was mentally unstable. That is all that is needed to be known! Show your respects and stop disrespecting those that died by trivializing this incidence

I'm writing a script for college about the 7 deadly sins and currently enjoying finding more about demons, angels, devil, god and stuff. however...i've hit a point where i'm just lost.

It says the Demon of Wrath is Satan. but the demon of Pride is Lucifer. I've created these as seperate entities living in hell along with the other 5 deadly vices...
So...now im confused. Who is the devil? I've heard that lucifer was once called satan. or the other way round- i forget.
So how can christians believe that these demons are the two vices when they think that they are the same person?
Or am i just going off in the completely wrong direction?
I dont want to twist a religion as i want to keep it consise with beliefs but i'm so confused now!
Satan was an angel who fell from heaven. Are the demons the other angels that fell with him? [i read a 1/3 of angels followed]
if anyone could explain this to me, if not for my own curiosity now other than my failing script, i would appreciate it :)

This may be one of the more bizarre stories we've seen (h/t Daily Kos) recently, which is saying a lot. Your federal government is apparently unwilling to investigate whether or not the Grand Canyon was created by the Biblical flood of Noah just 6,000 years ago. This is from a non-profit group of government scientists and related employees called Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, or PEER:

Washington, DC — Grand Canyon National Park is not permitted to give an official estimate of the geologic age of its principal feature, due to pressure from Bush administration appointees. Despite promising a prompt review of its approval for a book claiming the Grand Canyon was created by Noah's flood rather than by geologic forces, more than three years later no review has ever been done and the book remains on sale at the park, according to documents released today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER).

If it's impossible, that could mean that a) your free will was being limited or b) you were created in a manner such that you would always sin or c) God continually raises the bar

If it's "a" then why do you say we have free will. If it's "b" then why couldn't God have created you in a manner such that you would NEVER sin? If it's "c" then why does he do that?

That's a paraphrase of the Yiddish proverb: "If praying did any good they'd hire men to pray." Even great agnostics like Carl Sagan admitted that praying can make people feel good, like getting things off your chest to a psychiatrist or friend, sorting your thoughts out, but this is all true if you're just talking to yourself.

It seems like most prayers are asking for miraculous intervention, as in "Oh Lord, when two and two are added, let it be not four." That doesn't work. But a sensible comment on prayer that I've heard from a believer was C.S. Lewis famous, "I don't pray because it changes God. I pray because it changes me." If true, that would seem to justify some sort of prayer by atheists and agnostics, even though not directed at a divine personage.

I know people engage in selective observation to convince themselves God did a miracle for them as a result of prayer, but the notion that prayer might change us for the better seems worth considering. Your thoughts?
