How can we accept their interpretations of scriptures on any other issues...

Again, they are the largest protestant denomination...they set precedence in our government...Richard Land, the head of the Southern Baptist Convention is a right hand man of our President...Our President seeks his approval before enacting legislation etc...

So, the Southern Baptists are wrong on drinking and dancing...but, they are correct on gays being sinful?

This is a double standard.

I've read that many evangelicals like the NIV and conservatives also prefer the NASB.

I know there's no way to change the message of the Bible and it does have many conservative views...but is there a certain translation that liberals prefer to read?

The largest protestant denomination in the country, the Southern Baptists think so...being that out of touch...how can they be right on any other issues?

Jesus drank, Moses drank...of course Baptists say the wine wasn't fermented like it is today...isn't this a little hypocritical...

People danced in the Bible...again, not a big issue...to my knowledge the Bible does not say..do not drink or do not dance...I believe it just says do not drink in excess...

Muslims, but especially the shiites want the destruction of Israel and is already aligned with Russia and Syria in making and hiding nuclear weapons. Weapons of mass destruction are already hidden in Syria from before the beginning of the Iraq war, when they were moved from Iraq. They are involved in the turmoil in Iraq by helping to make bombs there. Iran is associated with Hezbollah and Hamas, both terrorist groups. They seem to be ready to move. How many years do we have left on this planet before all this comes to a head?

I'm not advertising, even though I like this site. It's really relevant. It's a humor site that makes fun of trends and excesses in Evangelical Christianity, done by a person who knows and is in it. It's like a PG-13 Landover Baptist Church. I like it because I was there and have many relatives who still are.

And that is continued to be untill the Bible was written. And even then it was very popular in many circles. And I'm not talking about gay men....I'm talking of straight men. It was a common practice to stage philosophical debates, drink, and have sex...many times by straight men...simple as a way of release....it was believed that this release would bring enlightenment as well. This was a common practice until the Bible was written. Could it be some powerful men in charge of including versus/books into the bible simple didn't like the practice and included it in to stop this.
This was never a problem until it shows up in the bible.
If there is a God...would he really look upon a loving relationship between two people as wrong?? Or is it simply man who can not accept and labeled it wrong???

I recently stumbled into telling my xtian friend that Christianity is a cult. It will come as no surprise to most, that this offended my friend. After a brief moment of reflection, I stood by my statement, but we decided to move on to other topics…

So, I’m really curious, what is it – in your opinion – that prevents your religion from being labeled a cult? I know that religious folk, even xtians, admit that religious cults exist, so what makes your sect of Christianity any different from those you would call a “cult”? (I choose Christianity as an example because of their high level of self-righteousness, but this question goes out to all organized religions, not just xtians).

If you would be so kind, please enlighten me as to why your religion or religious sect should not be looked upon in the same way as what most Americans (or people in the world), xtian or otherwise, would collectively agree upon is a true “cult”.
