How can we accept their interpretations of scriptures on any other issues...

Again, they are the largest protestant denomination...they set precedence in our government...Richard Land, the head of the Southern Baptist Convention is a right hand man of our President...Our President seeks his approval before enacting legislation etc...

So, the Southern Baptists are wrong on drinking and dancing...but, they are correct on gays being sinful?

This is a double standard.

Again, you are generalizing an entire denomination. I attend a southern baptist church of over 1000 members and we don't have issues on drinking, (unless it is too excess) and dancing. By the way, Richard Land is not the head of the Convention. Get your facts straight, I know those pesky facts get in the way of your tainted opinion. Pres. Bush is not southern baptist but is a Christian. The only advice he claims to seek is that of God. What do drinking, dancing, and homosexuality have to do with one another? It's only a double standard if the issues are related in some way.

Dude, where's your brain? I seriously doubt George Bush consults Richard Land for his approval. Bush is a Methodist by the way, not a Baptist. Southern Baptists aren't wrong on drinking, since in the Bible there are at least 74 references against drinking (my Pastor sent them to me, which is why I know). As for dancing, what are you talking about?

As for being right about gays (homosexuals, I hope everybody is happy), the Bible clearly and repeatedly says it's sinful. Obviously they're right there also.

It is not that any specific Christian denomination bases their laws on specific do's and don'ts from the bible. Paul was specific in conducting one's self appropriately so it is left for interpretion as to what is appropriate. Regardless of what people think, Baptists are not actually protestants. Protestant denominations stem from those churches that protested the Catholic Church. Baptists were originally Anabaptists and the name changed over time. The Anabaptists evolved from a sect of the Amish culture and when the Baptists left that they held on to some core Amish beliefs. It isn't biblical but cultural.

i'm no longer southern baptist, yet i'm going to offer you a heads up. ingesting. Drunkenness IS a sin. are you able to assure that when you start up ingesting at a occasion which you will no longer impair your judgment in any respect? Even one drink impairs impacts your concepts to 3 degree. and you may desire to ask your self how is your coronary heart. Are you going to attempt the shrink and get as close to to below the impression of alcohol as you are able to without sinning or are you purely going to declare i'm no longer likely to pass there. Dancing. while you're dancing in a lude, sexual way infront of folk, that's sin and can caus eothers to sin. while you're no longer husband and spouse, you need to not be rubbing up on human beings and while you're, you need to not be putting on a tutor, probably inflicting others to lust and sin, etc. The slavery, interracial relationship, and taking part in cards issues are not Biblical stands in any respect. i do no longer even understand in the event that they even have faith those issues.

I believe you are confused. I have just checked three sites (see sources below) and did not find any reference to drinking and dancing. Perhaps you are confusing Tradition and Doctrine.

Drinking and dancing may or may not be Baptist traditions although I suspect they do have something to say on those topics in regards to excess. That would be pertaining to how one leads their life as opposed to how someone saves their life i.e. Salvation.

Your asserting that President Bush checks with Richard Land before making decisions is no more valid than those who accused JFK of checking in with the Pope. Both are ridiculous statements.

Its down to interpretation if they mean drunkenness i would agree with them that's biblical but Jesus turned water into wine and used it at the last supper so drinking in moderation is fine. I don't see the problem with dancing there is nothing in scripture to forbid it. Homosexual practice is forbidden and the Southern Baptists are right to say so and you have the right to disagree with them but there position is biblical that does not mean i agree with some of the hate filled sermons though a more moderate approach would be better differing between person and practice.

No it isn't. We don't say that drinking or dancing are sinful; just undesirable because they might lead people into sin. But the choice of whether to take part in those things or not always rests with the individual, with no sin attached to either choice. Homosexual behavior is another matter completely. It is explicitly condemned as sin by the Scriptures, in several places in both the Old and the New Testaments. We don't have the authority to veto God's rules just because they're unpopular.

You make a good point, it says nothing in the bible or in tradition against drinking or dancing, or even gambling for that matter.

We are not to be lustfull and drunk though.

We have to be careful when making moral statements that we are truly reflection the words of God, or we as Christians do loose credibility.

That is why I left the Protestant movement and became Catholic.

Peace!

Any religion is a cult when they try to scare other people into thinking they are going to turn into Pumpkinhead if they do not believe the exact same thing they do.

Most religions are cults, and people need to realize that, for example, the word hell use to be hades, before that it was graves, and before that it was who knows what

things get interpretated, passed down, and in the hands of the wrong people, we could all end up seriously oppressed,
like Footloose meets Seven or something far worse
