as an aheist myself i know what all the bad points of blind faith are.... the list is endless

but what are the good points?

there must be some benefit to switching off the logical part of the brain and praying, worshiping or general factual ignorance otherwise people wouldnt do it.... but they do... loads of them

my question is

what are the benefits of blind faith?

This is a serious question, I'm not an atheist or a christian, but I do want to find a good answer. Don't try to doubt me out, or bible beat me. (as if me asking that is really going to stop the waves of it... lol)

I really believe God has been punishing me for the past 7 years. I don't think I'm a bad person and I try to be nice to people but nothing seems to go right in my life. Should i continue to pray or just be evil?

I had to attend the funeral of a mormon cooworker once at the mormon church. I genuflected and made sign of cross upon entering church and also as I approached the pew where I would sit. Many of the people saw this as awkard.

People should be able to choose in what they believe. There are too many religious freaks that need to spend for time time doing things that are more important!

Aren't you the type of people who believe we're not responsible for what our ancestors did? Reparations anyone? How can you believe the human race must pay for what our supposed Adam and Eve ancestors did but not what your ancestors did to slaves?

For the record, I don't believe today's generation is responsible for either.

For God’s wrath is being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who are suppressing the truth in an unrighteous way, because what may be known about God is manifest among them, for God made it manifest to them. For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable; because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God nor did they thank him, but they became empty-headed in their reasonings and their unintelligent heart became darkened. Although asserting they were wise, they became foolish and turned the glory of the incorruptible God into something like the image of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed creatures and creeping things. That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature.

Some Muslim countries (like Jordan) have adopted the unified adhan in major cities, i.e the adhan is broadcast and heard from all mosques within the same city at the same time. What this entails is that mosque imams are not able to perform the adhan themselves. This entails two things:

- the mosque imams do not get the reward for performing the adhan,

- second, the faithful at each mosque do not get to identify with a particular imam at their local mosque.

Should the unified adhan be adopted or should we go back to conventional adhan?

I just read your blog and I need to tell you that you are a very strong woman and I do not judge your husband. I am so glad he and yourself found God together and made your marriage work. Forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts God gave us and to see it's power is a miracle in itself. Alot of women would not have the strength to forgive as you did so be proud and God bless!

I've got a bunch of irreligious / lapsed / atheist friends. In fact, I'd guess that among my friends I'm in the minority, thinking about religious things. No problem with that, they're all pretty intelligently philosophical, and they don't try to convert me, nor I them.

But here's the deal - often, when an issue that is "significant" comes up (like, say, their family, or an important death, or a "moral" choice) they swing by my place, and talk about it with me. Not so that they can get a "religious perspective," whatever that might be - and I don't introduce God into the coversation - but the subtext is always there.

This was brought home to me, rather forcefully, when a buddy of mine - not religious - found out that his wife was dying. He's got family - brothers and sisters and kids - but he wants to talk about it with me.

And I'm proud to be the one he called. And of course I won't bring up God. But do you guys ever just like to talk about it with a religious guy?

I'm a twenty one year old young adult, I've been in the word heavily recently and have never given into the trends of my youth but I can't help to feel the burden of this generation and notice thins running amuck.

I think there are certain signs that point to Jesus's return. The most glaring of this is the lack of morality in this country. I have been to two different top ranked universities, and seen the same sin. I believe it's harder to find girls with respect for themselves, sexually disciplined, or guys who have morals.

Did god speak directly to this point, that girls will begin to behave as boys, in regard to their sin, aggressiveness etc?

In mixing with non-religious studies, a woman now matches shot for shot the amount of alochol a man drinks, stds are taking over he majority of everyone. Anyone see the rapture at the doorstep?

Seriously. It's like some sort of cruel joke. We're here, and the fact that we're just going to die one day and be forgotten to the extent that it will be like we never existed bothers us. It bothers us so much that we make up myths to passify ourselves (like God). How do people like me, a person who doesn't like to make up myths just to get me through the day, keep going any more? What's the point? I mean for fu(k's sakes, none of this really matters so why do we act like everything is so important, I mean we've gotten so caught up in our own logical facade of value that we make everything a taboo. Homosexuality, sex in general, and our own bodies for crying out loud, we're ashamed of those too. We even go so far as to make laws out lawing showing off our natural bodies, ad I'm the only one who finds that disturbing (and doesn't go run off to live with other nudists in a camp somewhere)? I mean people, come on, why do we lie to ourselves so much is the real question here.

Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson have been predicting it would happen within their lifetimes since before color TVs. I know. I've seen them in BLACK AND WHITE spouting the same crap.

First off, the Jesus character warned about false prophets all preaching they know when the end will come. Second of all, even the Jesus character was wrong. He said it would happen within his generation. WRONG!

"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[d]is near, right at the door. 34I tell you the truth, this generation[e] will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened."

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[f] but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."

Just curious, I'm an atheist and I am more moral than most religious friends that I have. Why do you believe that you have to be religious to be moral?

It is human nature to be moral, it is also part of evolution to protect our race, what does religion have anything to do with morals?

Nearly all my friends are atheists and not one is a hedonist. On the contrary, it seems like every "born again" story starts out with a drinking, drug-taking, wife-beater who finds God. It seems to me that Christians are the ones fighting with the demon of hedonism.

This is the ever present morality question that if you don't believe in hell what keeps you from doing immoral deeds and hurting people, because there is no karmic influence.

Well my retort as an agnostic/atheist is that I have empathy.
And byt the way, if the only thing keeping you from hurting other people was the idea of hell, then doesn't that make you the immoral and "evil" person, and not I?

About my amputees thing. I wasn't trying to discredit your God, I was simply asking why people believe in miracles. I feel you think I was attacking your God and the good he does in lives, and that wasn't the case, so I apoligize if I seemed that way. It is wonderful when someone can connect to the divine and become a better person and lead a better life. In a way that is it's own miracles, but the miracles I was talking about were physical ones, like so many people believe in.

You know, how people say God miraculously cured their son of cancer or whatever. I definitly believe you can draw strength from God to beat it, but it's not exactly a miracle like regrowing a limb, do you see what I mean?
