as an aheist myself i know what all the bad points of blind faith are.... the list is endless

but what are the good points?

there must be some benefit to switching off the logical part of the brain and praying, worshiping or general factual ignorance otherwise people wouldnt do it.... but they do... loads of them

my question is

The only benefit of blind faith that I could possibly imagine would be the ability of some to use it to find hope when they can't find it any other way. The vast majority of devout people are either incapable of dealing with normal life or so damaged that they don't want to be a part of normal life. I have an example of this that I see on a regular basis,my mother who is very devout, incapable of dealing with real life and just waiting for God to take her away from it all.

You get to think all your enemies will be punished and you’ll live forever. Which is a great thing to think but untrue. It has probably given people more survival value in the past. Having someone to pray to and put all your trust in can be a good thing. Even if it's not real and just something perpetuated by the ignorance of man. But in my opinion it’s far better to be an atheist. Like that quote ‘‘ To say a religious man is happier then a non religious one is the equivalent of a drunk man being happier then a sober one’’. Or at least it was something to that effect.

Well, I'm not an athiest, but I was forced to follow the Christian religion as a child by my parents. One of the benefits is that you don't worry so much about "How am I going to fix this problem?"... Your thoughts are more on the lines of "I will pray and a God will fix this problem if is that is his will." You sort of worry less because you believe this invisible entity will be there for you. However in my opinion u might as well talk to urself...

I think a feeling of belonging and community are important to many people and religion can provide that ( of course it has its bad side in isolationism intolerance, etc. )
It can create a frame work for moral behavior ( putting aside it's effect on moral behavior to those outside the faith) easily accesible to those who can not make moral desicions on their own.
I would say that in todays world the most positive attribute for the individual is to help to overcome existential problems. I believe ( this is just my personal take on things) that one of the biggiest problems people face today is a crisis of purpose and of meaning. While it is preferable to find these for yourself, not everyone is capable of that, and religion delievers them in a neat little package. The psycological benifit of having meaning and purpose, even if based on false premises, may make lives subjectivly fullfilling that otherwise would not be.

It is pretty insulting to hear when some religious people claim atheists are ignorant or in denial. As far as I know, this is not the behaviour of a religious person.

The good points, for me, are that I have never needed to insult someone’s religion. I have never felt the need to tell any religious person that their belief is wrong.

I'm an agnostic, but i'll try an answer your question. There is a sense that someone is always watching over you. There is always someone to talk to, no matter what you did. It gives you unity with others that have the simmilar beliefs. There is always a sense of hope because god will make it better. You feel safe because you know you are destined to hevean.

Blind faith can have a Prozac like effect on the believers.

I was visited by some Jehovah's Witnesses a couple days ago. They explained a few things about their faith and they asked me if I thought it would be comforting to know these things. And I agreed that it would be, even if I didn't believe them. Anyways, my answer to your question is that it is comforting to believe that there is something looking out for you and that whatever happens in this world, there will be another one beyond.

Who has been praising the benefits of blind faith? Faith is not blind, ignorance is blind. Faith is what you achieve when you glimpse something outside the physical experience. I'll bet you will reject that. I don't know how else to explain it. You don't understand faith, you accept it.

It not only decreases worry and stress, but also boosts confidence because you put your problems in the hands of God. This would probably increase performance, attitude and many other things as a result.
