Most of the miracles people allege seem to be questionable to me ......

I don't see anyone raising people from the dead ...... immediately and completely curing the blind, paralyzed and others with a mere touch so ......

Why are today's miracles different than the ones that Jesus and his Apostles performed ????

Religion is a self-perpetuating behavioral control mechanism using fear of an inevitible judgement by a deity beyond direct influence. It serves to normalize behavior of large groups to allow humans to more comfortably interact in numbers beyond those who an individual can know personally.

Additionally, religion is used to create differentials in power and authority within a society to organize and direct control. Most commonly, this includes divisions of control by gender and establishment of or support of monarchies.

The dark side of this is that many times, the human organism has difficulty attaining the required ideals and it causes conflict between individuals, within individuals, and between groups of people. Many of these requirements are common sensical and may have had practical value, but they tend to be held for irrationally long time or to the point of absurdity.

Even on its best day, religion is also a mechanism of cruelty...

Of course the Jews and Christians had the writings of Moses and the prophets .... but what qualifies those letters and writings of the Apostles as being considered Holy Scripture ? Why do Catholics include some different books also ??

I am not understanding this. A rib isn't that much.
You don't get something from nothing.

How did he make a say, roughly 120 lb woman from a 5 oz rib?

Evidence requires no faith, it only requires that you look at it. Faith on the other hand requires an absence of evidence. If there were evidence it wouldn't be faith...it would be knowledge. Faith is the 'gap filler' ...sort of like putty to fill in the cracks and holes.

However, does a lack of evidence in anything really need faith. Doesn't a lack of evidence or knowledge require action and discovery. Filling in the 'gaps' with faith admits defeat....admits that ignorance is our only choice.

If I wanted to include a bible verse in a letter to a young man serving time in jail for possession of drugs, what would be comforting and/or inlightening? The man is additionally, homeless, broke, and alone and looking at a fairly long jail sentence. He cannot receive any wallet cards, letter enclosures, etc, and never gets to be out of doors. But, he does have access to a Bible.
