Yes, the Bible states that "fornication" (sex outside of marriage between single individuals) is a sin. As to why people still do it.... For the same reason some people steal, lie, kill, covet, curse God, don't keep the sabbath day etc. People often do what feels good to them at the moment with little or no thought about possible consequences of their actions. Americans (and I suspect most other so called civilized cultures) are basically selfish people who like to do what they like to do. It is often not until later in life (after one has sowed their wild oats more or less) that they come to realize that maybe it wasn't such a great idea to do some of the things they did. Some turn to religion, others simply stop doing the dumb things because they realize that those things are not really good for them.

In a way, yes. In some ways, a Christian understanding of sex is that it is part of the marriage. It is essentially the closest two people can physically get to one another which is supposedly meant to mirror the emotional/spiritual closeness of a devoted relationship. In some traditions, you aren't married until you have sex (hence the idea of consummating the union.)
In response to the second question, American culture and thus many Americans, have separated the physical from the emotional/spiritual aspect of the union between two people. Thus, the belief is that you can (and maybe should) engage in the physical union regardless of the emotional/spiritual element because either a) that other element doesn't exist or b) if it does exist, it is not tied to the physical sexual act. Therefore, it is assumed that there is no problem of seeking physical closeness outside of the emotional/spiritual closeness found in a devoted relationship found in marriage.

Christianity does not forbid it - God's Word in the Holy Scriptures forbids it to ALL people.
Don't confuse "Americans" with "Christians". One is a nationality and the other is a faith. The United States was founded on Biblical principles, but this is not a "Christian nation". Such a thing is strictly forbidden by the first amendment of the Constitution. The United States is not a theocracy. We are a secular government of religous peoples. In other words, you have the right by birth to believe what ever you so wish to believe and that you do not have the right to force that belief or lack of belief on anyone else.

No, because Christianity means the belief in Jesus. Jesus overrulled the Law of Moses with love. Adultery and fornication are not done out of love, so they are an abomination, but besides that, there is nowhere in the Bible that it says those things are wrong. Homosexuality is strictly forbidden, thats for sure, but as far as sex before marriage I believe it's okay.
What do you think Jesus did with Mary Magdalen that whole time?
The Scribes were the ones who told Jesus he was a wine bibber and a number of other things. Jesus's message was love, and that was it.
SEX IS FOR OUR ENJOYMENT, Did you know that? God made it for our enjoyment just like food, and rest---it's a need physically and phsycologically for a human. God made sex, the Devil distorted it.
The Devil told Adam and Eve in the garden that they were naked, didn't he? He hates sex and reproduction. He has decieved the churches even today. He also took sex and distorted it and made it sick and ungodly... The Devil did all of that! Know the difference.

Duh....all demoninations forbid their followers from practicing sex before marriage...Sex before marriage is called "fornication" and the 1st book of Corinthians Chapter 6 verse 9 states " 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God." However, there's mercy if a fornicator repents and turns away from such sin. To answer your second question, yes...there are Christians who abide the rule. However, there are some that make the mistake as well.

Yes, Christianity forbid sex before marriage.
Don't you ever think all the Americans with a Christian name are Christians?
A real Christian can never think of a sexual relation before marriage, out side marriage and having multiple partners.

Premarital sex is not exceptable for it breaks God's commandments.
Hebrews 13:4 – “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”

Yes. Also sex for fun. Sex is only for reproduction, not for enjoyment.
Fortunately not all Americans have delusional mental disorders so they do not use bronze age fairy tales inspired by middle eastern goat herders as guidance for their lives.
