Religious leaders claim Eve was taken from 1 of Adam's ribs.

I am not understanding this. A rib isn't that much.
You don't get something from nothing.

How did he make a say, roughly 120 lb woman from a 5 oz rib?

Only serious answers pls! It really bothers me, cause it seems so hard to believe, that I find myself questioning if the Bible is real or not.

It's a comic book story. The whole bible thing is a myth that has a cult following. Don't believe that stuff.

First of all, why does the size of the rib have to do with anything? Scientifically men and women come from atoms, cells, eggs, and sperm. They are microscopic. So, even from a secular and scientific point of view, the size of the object from which something comes from is irrelevant. The fact is that you can, theoretically, get something from nothing.. or at least from what APPEARS to be nothing. Where did the big bang come from? Where do regenerated cells come from? Where is gravity and how come you cannot see it? Appearances are deceptive, and that is not a religious argument. Science is very real, but it still needs to be applied scientifically.

Secondly, it is obvious you do not believe in the Bible already. If you did, even a little bit, then you would believe in God and his omnipotence and supernatural abilities. If you believed this, then you would find it less hard to accept a possible miracle. I do not intend that to question your belief in God. You can believe what you want to, but the nature of your question suggests that your intentions are possibly shady. You are trying to sneak a science vs religion argument into a carefully worded "innocent" question. If that is not the case, then you are really a confused person who does not quite know what they are looking for. What DO you believe? Maybe when you establish that, you can understand the Bible better.

Thirdly, your interpretation of the Bible is very literal. Although some Christians claim to take a "literal" view of the Bible, many do not. (I would claim that NONE of them do, but that is a whole different question to be answered). A medieval interpretation of this passage would suggest that Eve was inferior from Adam, because she came FROM Adam. Most religious scholars today would reject that idea. Regardless, perhaps the Bible does not intend that Eve literally came from the rib at all. Perhaps the rib is a symbol of man and woman coming from the same place. We are a part of one another. We are both flesh and bone. We are essentially equal. The rib is man's reminder to respect and love women, who is a part of his being. You don't have to look far in our society to see that a majority of men do not treat women with the respect they deserve. My point here goes back to my suspicion that you intended this question to challenge the Bible. What you believe FIRST often goes into your interpretation of what you read.

I recommend sitting back and reconsidering the real reasons you want answers to this question. Are you trying to prove Christians wrong? Not possible. Even if they were, it is a matter of perception and relation. You can not prove this any easier than you can prove what the all-time best movie ever is, or what my favorite ice cream is. Some things are not measurable. Are you just making a statement about the practicality of the Bible? Then maybe you need to better educate yourself on theology, literature, and history. You do not appear to have the tools to interpret this kind of text. Are you truly trying to find God? Well, you need to search inside yourself before you start going to the Bible. God is in you first, then the book.

Most ppl at this point just go with the idea that it's a metaphor. But that's not really necessary. The Hebrew word for rib and curve are the same. It is possible that God was talking about taking some of Adam's DNA (the double helix is curved).
Hey, how else is God gonna explain genetic manipulation to a bunch of stone age scribes?

Bible is troubling as people start to believe human beings are more supreme than before. Religion like Scientology is a good example. They believe humans are the highest being.

To study something, you must assume preliminaries before the actual start. A good example is study of theories. Since I am an Econ student I will relate to economics. Economics will not give you the real answers, but it will give you theories. To understand these theories, you must assume any preliminaries before even trying to take the cause into effect. To assure Christian(myself one), I will not say that Bible is a theory, but it is a study. You must assume many things before you read the bible. That means, if you don't believe in god, then bible itself is not real.
This may sound crazy, but you must prove god to disprove actions. Disproving actions without proving god will never happen. Why? if you cannot prove god then you cannot prove action and therefore action has no relevance. Now, you can diprove action, but this does not mean you can disprove god. God must be disprove to disprove actions. Therefore, there will never be a right answer. That is why bible is bullet proof. What can I say, I like to contradict god, but I am not sure if there is a way.

The same way He spoke the world into creation, and made Adam from dust, and raised Jesus from the dead, and parted the Red Sea, etc... He is God, if you can believe that Jesus was the Son of God, Died for your sins, was raised from the dead, not to mention all the miracles He worked, and the Holy Spirit continues to work, then Him making Eve from just a rib falls into the same category as all the other examples I gave. Our God truly is awesome.

A rib is something it's not nothing... He created man without any rib didn't He? This is God, our Heavenly Father we're talking about... The creator of the heavens and the earth. He Gives us what we need to know He doesn't give us everything all at once.

That's why we are to follow Christ...so the mysteries of God may be unfolded to us.

Have faith brother, just because you don't understand everything yet, doesn't make it false.

This is another classic example of what I refer to as God's K.I.S.S. principle. God of course could have done anything, as he was able to create something from nothing in the first place...if he didnt have that power, we would not be here, ....nothing would. I would suggest however that perhaps he simply took the DNA that is present in all bones and tweaked it a bit to make the female of the species. This is how I see it anyway and I know I would get a lot of argument from mainstream Christians but as I said, that is how I see it. Man could not possibly have understood God's scientific ability at the time of the writing of his word thus...the K.I.S.S. thing.

Alright he made her the same way he made Adam(from the dust from the ground, except women have one more rib(yep its true).
If you wan't to get technicial, Dust contains various elements and carbon, which makes up almost all of the things on earth when formed with other elements. And the elemental structure of our skin nails and hair are almost exactly the same as dirt.(just a wierd fact.)

HE made the entire universe out of nothing at all, don't you think HE can make a woman out of a rib? Man was made out of a little pile of dirt. HE served 500 men plus women and children with a couple loaves of bread and a few fish, with 12 baskets full when they were done.

I like Joseph W answer. Ha! Ha!
Actually I don't believe he did. I believe that Eve was used as a symbol of all the women. God created women not woman and Adam, God created men not just one.
That's what I believe.

The Bible Is Fiction. Science was not around the time the Bible was written, like the part where God says the center of the universe is the Earth. It took Galileo to proove the Bible wrong. That isn't the only error in the Bible. Or how come Jesus was resurected, but no where in actual present day time that has never happened. The Bible is purley fiction
