Nearly all my friends are atheists and not one is a hedonist. On the contrary, it seems like every "born again" story starts out with a drinking, drug-taking, wife-beater who finds God. It seems to me that Christians are the ones fighting with the demon of hedonism.

It is kind of an obvious question, isn't it? I have thought of asking it several times and your blog prompted me to go ahead. satisfied?

Because they're trying to make themselves look good and the atheists look bad. They KNOW atheists aren't like that but are trying to get a reaction.

Thanks Brendan, but my story didn't involve drugs. Nice of you to embellish it though. And I have never equated Atheism with Hedonism. I used to be a Hedonist. I have never been an Atheist.

When, for the love of all that is decent and holy, are you going to stop GENERALIZING in your questions?

EDIT - Oh yeah, sure Brendan. I'm sure you ask lots about alcoholic wife-beaters in all your other questions too...let's go see....nope...not a one. Please.

Oh here we go, this is what you said in my blog: Why must all conversion stories be cast in such an extreme light? In fact, the whole thing would be more believable if ordinary people leading ordinary lives were converted (or we heard *their* stories). But I think there's this need to equate atheism, hedonism and whatever (the dark side), to Christ (the light side).

So I guess you're going to say you were already formulating this question in your mind before you read my story, right? O.K.

EDIT - Yes, now I am satisfied, thank you. Getting you to answer me is like pulling teeth from a wild boar, you know that? I send a warm and squishy wet willy in your direction. Cheers! :)

i think of Bible Believers equate people who settle for Evolution as Atheist using fact Evolution places the deceive the Biblical account of creation! Animals, and human beings ought to no longer have more advantageous "Into" what They/we at the instant are if the God Magician did as he brags of doing in Genesis. If Evolution is real then god is the two a Liar or nonexistent so the Believers ought to hold that Evolution by employing skill of organic decision over geological time isn't only right suited. For the believers interior the mystical account, the earth ought to be youthful, and the magician had to have made each and every thing look on, and above Earth suddenly only as curiously now.

Christians are the hedonists from what I can tell. They seem to think that if they do the right thing now, they will end up in some heaven that none of them can really describe, but from the vauge things they come up with just seems to be one perptetual ( but non-sexual) orgasm.
Atheists understand that life is a combination of pleasure and pain and strive to have the balance to the proper side. If there is a heaven, my view of it is not much different from life here. Only in heaven, I will become what I hope I am capable of, rather than what I fear.

You confuse extremist hedonism with atheism. I am an atheist and a moderate. The over the top hedonists exist in every faith....

ok i suggest something i see the most common answer from cristian's and atheists are "stop generalizing" so i recommend a we start the question like this "why do some Cristian's/Atheists "
and to answer your question i think its because they are afraid that they are on an express train to hell and when they realize this they get scared and turn to a model Cristian

I agree... this is because many of them have brainwashed themselves to see non-believing as a denial of something in search of pleasure, rather then just a realization. Not all Christians are like this, but certainly many, and they just don't seem to understand that I'm not denying or turning my back on anything, I'm just THINKING!

Why are you saying we all do that? Isn't that just as biased as what you say you do not like? I am Christian and i am fully aware that most people have morals. Peace be with you

Probably for the very same reason that you start your question: "Why do Christians....". "We all tend to generalize, based on our experience with two or three, don't we?

Ever heard the phrase "there's no one holier than a reformed whore"? It's fear, ignorance and self-loathing, in my opinion.
