This is a serious question, I'm not an atheist or a christian, but I do want to find a good answer. Don't try to doubt me out, or bible beat me. (as if me asking that is really going to stop the waves of it... lol)

What I am speaking about is the historians of the time. Philo a well known historian of the time in the area, didn't write about it. The romans who crucified him made no note of it, or of his trial. There were plenty of "false" profits and blashphemers at the time, so why would they be noted and Jesus not, as he was rejected and would have been recorded and recongnized as such.

Two sites related to the history of the Bible
http://www.bidstrup.com/bible.htm
http://www.bibleorigins.net/

Bidstrup is fairly brief, bible origins is huge and incredibly well researched, but HUGE. (well over a thousand separate files)
Read Bidstrup first.

EDIT:
You had 5 answers from believers, these two sources I am giving are from historians relying on archaeology and scripture analyses. They do not support the idea of a historical Jesus. They give a very accurate history of where the bible came from.

Edit #2:
The myspace link given below tells you nothing about truth. It only tells that they have paper. A pristine copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales is still Grimm's Fairy Tales.

You should read about the pagan god Mithras. It seems to me him and Jesus were sort of made into one. And that is why there are not many accounts of miracles. I think Jesus if he did exist was just a nice prophet. And wanting to extend his message to the masses they sort of blended him in with paganism. Such as the resurrection and virgin birth that come from Mithras. I'm not a genius though so you can’t take anything I say seriously. But those are some ideas I've postulated in my head. I'm an atheist by the way for some reason I felt like I should let that be known haha. I don't tend to think about Jesus so much usually I just think about the big picture. Science has proved we evolved and that the entire universe is self maintained. What room does that really leave for a god?

You're right when you say that the information available is paltry.

However, this scripture in John shows that he did many many things beyond that which is written down in the Gospel accounts!

John 21:25 25 There are, in fact, many other things also which Jesus did, which, if ever they were written in full detail, I suppose, the world itself could not contain the scrolls written.

Why is there so little? I can only think of one reason! The Bible is written and inspired by God for a specific purpose! Right!

Then the acts that Christ did that are not written down obviously have no impact as such on that purpose!

And - a message from me about your question: Nobody minds a serious question. This is the way we all get more enlightened about various subjects! So, keep going and enjoy yourself.

I don't think Jesus existed in the way portrayed in the bible, and certainly the bible is not a history book or an autobiography of Jesus.
The early Rabbinic record of the Jewish faith , a document called "Dialogue with Trypho", written by St Justin Martyr circ 160 AD recorded what is basically an argument that Just Martyr had with a Jewish man called Trypho. In this document, Trypho mentioned a "groundless report" and also clearly and unequivocally stated the early church had "invented" Christ. In the famous Ante-Nicene Library can be seen this passage that reads " "But Krist, if he has indeed been born and exists anywhere is unknown...And you, having accepted a groundless report, invented a Kristo for yourself."
I am sure I could fill several pages with other references that question the historical accuracy of the life of Christ, but the point is, that belief in the concept, the teaching and practise of true Christianity is ultimately good, the fact that it is based on a lie is fundamentally irrelevant.

The Bible are many books within one book. It is split up into two parts, the Old Testament and the New Testament. It's in the New Testament you will find many accounts of Christ's miracles. The Bible was written over hundreds of years.

Do you really mean "Why are there no KNOWN accounts...."?

I suspect that education and hence the ability to write wasn't all that prevalent and that accounts of anything were primarily handed down by word of mouth. Those that could write were probably responsible to the governments, businesses and religions.

Because as he was growing up he was just as you or I,subject to the sins of the world and the temptations of Satan.Only after he was baptized by John that the dove descended from heaven and declared that" this is my son in whom I am pleased".This was to show us all that resisting Satan is possible. After this he began his ministry and performed many of his miracles.

Read the Old Testament. It told of the coming of Jesus Christ. Read the New Testament and learn all about Jesus and the miracles He performed.
