Are words "really" that "powerful"

Or do you think there's a limited correlation?

What I'm wondering is if by merely going through hymnals of different churches, you can get an accurate idea of their teachings.

Or do you pick out ones that are convientent for you or don't get in the way of your comfortable lifestlye?

If you feel as if some of these don't apply anymore then please give me the bible verses that say that they no longer needed.

In the Gospal of Mathew, Joseph is told to take Mary and the baby Jesus away to avoid Herod's kid killing rampage. He is then told that Herod is dead and they may return.....then later in Mathew (chapter 14, i think) there is Herod alive and well killing J. the B. when Jesus is grown up....what up?

Why don't J/W's celebrate Birthdays? I know the only two mentions in the bible about birthday's are bad but that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't have to do it.

NOT all...some are perfectly lovely, but just this (and atheist/gay bashing gan be a little grating at times)

[quote 17/18/19Corinthians blah blah
paragraph after paragraph of cut and paste from the bible, who honestly reads this?]

sorry to be so childish but read the bible and then give it back, at least in your own words.
just becauseyour post is longest doesnt make it the most valid....

some hypocracy and a little 'you'll burn in hell' (basicly if you arent christian) smugness...

and then end with...
peace be with you

thats quite hypocritical, no? at last have the decency to admit that you aren't wishing peace on anyone really

Am more than happy to hear your own viewpoint from your religious standpoint, happily welcome it in fact.

Ok, since NO ONE but 1 person can actually read....lets try this again shall we.

I want A or B, nothing else, no quotes, no personal feelings, no bible passages, NOTHING.

A or B ONLY, is this just too much to ask?

How many of you think Lucifer, the Devil, Satan is this person (spirit) that is red, horns, evil looking, black (not as in race), etc like all the TV movies, books and the rest show us?

How many think he is dressed in white and looks like an Angel?

NOT LOOKING FOR RIGHT OR WRONG....looking for what people think.

A. Red, Horns, Pitch fork, etc.
B. Dressed in white like Angel.

..to use scripture?

When considering the other side of someone's arguement in a religious debate:

Christians require Atheists to consider their arguement, with the assumption that a god exists.

Atheists require Christians to listen to their arguement, with the assumption that a god doesn't - i.e. The scriptures are wrong too.

So surely it's bad practise to respond (if you're a religious person) using scripture, because the entirety of one's religion needs to be suspended, considered and questioned (if a reasonable answer is to be formed).

You can't pick and choose which bits to analyse and leave other bits as true? In which case any arguement can be proved by only suspending bits at a time:

It would be similar to having two imaginary friends (A and B) and saying A exists because B says he does and vice versa. Surely both A and B need to be suspended and looked at to draw a fair conclusion?

I recently received a Yahoo violation notice for my Answer to a Question. I was not gross with my answer. I told the truth. So my question: “ Is telling the truth to someone that is ignorant, or just does not have the foggiest idea of the potential consequences of a certain subject or event, wrong”?

A simple example would be if a person was going to pick up a poisonous snake and did not know it was poisonous, but you knew it was poisonous, would you tell them?

It is sad these days that the “Truth” has become Politically Incorrect. Beam me up!!!

Christ rose from the dead. That is the concept of resurrection. When ordinary mortals are reborn it is reincarnation. Was resurrection indeed the reincarnation of Christ and people gave it a fancy name to distinguish it exclusively as Jesus' reincarnation.

How do you view those Muslims who are unnaccepting of the Theory of Evolution, if there is justification in the Qur'an for Evolution, is there justification against it also?

Also, most Muslims on Yahoo Answers appear to be very educated and intelligent, even the Muslims who do not believe in Evolution. What is motivating such intelligent Muslims to use Yahoo Answers, specifically, the Religion and Spirituality Category? Are there debates within Modern Islam that play out here that I don't see?

Why do christians say that homosexuality is bad, because if everyone was gay the human race would die out, while ignoring the fact that the bible says celibacy is good. If everyone was celibate wouldn't the human race die out too?

What logical reason is there for saying homosexuality is a sin.

Where can I buy the 4 vedas doctrines??? Please, I am very desperate to buy them. I think that they are: samveda; ayurveda, athurveda and rig veda.

I also want to buy the puraanas, the upanishads and the shastras. I need to buy them in the english translation because I do not read and write hindi or sanscrit. I checked on www.amazon.co.uk but they seem to have abbreviated all 4 vedas into one book, which is very stupid.
