Why do christians say that homosexuality is bad, because if everyone was gay the human race would die out, while ignoring the fact that the bible says celibacy is good. If everyone was celibate wouldn't the human race die out too?

What logical reason is there for saying homosexuality is a sin.

The bible doesn't say celibacy is the only way to go.

On the other hand, not all Christians are against homosexuality. I'm a Christian and also consider myself an ally of the LGBT community.

I am not sure about it being a sin - seems like that is a human invention - but it is unbalanced. The first holy trinity was Man, Woman, and Child. The west had a problem with the woman and replaced the woman with a ghost. The Greeks were straight freeks as were the Romans - the British - The French - so on and so on - Only Europeans have such a long history of homosexuality. I am not saying that other cultures were not homosexual but it surely was not accepted like it was the the west. Greeks and Romans were proud homosexuals. I personally feel that it is unbalanced and I frown upon anything unbalanced. I think that causes other things to go wrong. I always hear homosexuals use the argument that they were born that way - I am sure pedafiles have the same argument - that does not make it right. If everyone thought like homosexuals than the human race would cease to exist. As far as celibacy goes - I think that has more to do with controlling ones desires and realty has nothing to do with sex at all. I believe god made us for a reason - he made us able to reproduce for a reason - and our sexual pleasures should not govern our lives. I do not see homosexual pigs and dogs running around. Seems like we humans are the only homosexual animals on the planet so I do not see how it is natural. But that does not mean I look down on homosexuals or anything like that - that will be up to God. I really have no problem with homosexuals and will talk to them like anyone else as long as they are not looking at my butt! Then we may have some problems. And I have to admit - it is hard for me to be around homosexuals that are very flamboyant - like they are trying to prove something to the world. But like I said as long as they are not bringing it to me - its all good.

Okay, I think you have a little bit of your facts confused. There is a part in the old testament of the bible that refers to homosexuals and it condemns this behavior. The story tells of 2 angels (male in appearance) who come to a town and stay in a room and men from the town want them to come out of their room so that they can have sex with them. So you can see that the context is as much about sexual assault as it is about homosexuality.
Secondly, I don't remember the bible ever saying anything about celibacy being good. That's something that the Catholic Church promotes among the clergy in order that priests and nuns focus only on the most important, God, and not be divided in their hearts. The bible promotes monogamy and marriage.
To answer your question at the end, I don't think homosexuality is a sin. I think everyone deserves a chance for happiness and love in their lives, if someone happens to be gay that shouldn't make them any different. I am not in the same boat as far right wing conservatives though. I'm also female and am not worried about how this would effect my reputation as a male heterosexual. Too many men are homophobes hiding behind their 'Christianity' argument that gay is wrong.

My understanding is Christians believe in celibacy if you are un-married. Also, marriage is a Holy Sacrament. Children are a blessing from God. You are not less of a person if you are homosexual, single, or childless. God loves all His children. Christians believe sex is about procreation, not recreation. If you are homosexual, you cannot procreate. If you are trying to start a family with someone, why wouldn't you be married.
I am not a Christian, but I try to understand why and where this comes from. I am currently reading the Holy Qur'an by Maulana Muhammed Ali. From what I gather so far, they'd stone you to death if you were Homosexual.
BTW, if you are religious and Homosexual, there are churches like Open Door Ministries that are Homosexual friendly and do good work.
Although I am Heterosexual and non-religious, I have performed for and helped them on numerous occassions when they feed the homeless or help gang members. It's pretty teriffic to see any organization helping their fellow man/woman.

The Bible can say anything you want it to... It was written to be interpreted however one wanted it to be.

On the issue of celibacy, it is most often meant to mean "Do not have sex before marriage." Most Christian faiths strongly oppose sexual relations before marriage because they believe that it is wrong for a child to be born to unmarried parents and that sex is something special that should only be shared by two married people. Once you're married, however, your marriage is supposed to be a union in order to produce children who will then follow in your faith. In fact, some religions are very against the use of any kind of contraceptive. But no one really pays attention to that particular rule... People pick and choose which parts of their faith they want to follow.

While many Christians are against homosexuality because of a misguided fear that their children will be raped and the sacntity of marriage will be ruined, many other people simply feel that a marriage is meant to be a union between a man and a woman to have children and raise a good, Christian family. Because a homosexual couple cannot produce children in a "traditional" way, many Christians feel that they do not deserve to marry or have any kind of relationship.

However, it is now very rare to find people who are waiting until marriage before engaging in sexual activities... I don't know the exact statistic, but there are more teenagers experimenting with sex today than there were many years ago, so there's no need to worry about the human race dying out anytime soon :-P

the bible never says being celibate is good. In fact, God would like us to have lots of children. the apostle Paul was theo nly one who said he was marrid to the church. That is where the catholic church has come up with that Priests should be celibate.....but that was taken out of context in th bible and words never spoken by God.

Some of these replies are really humorous! I think alot of you should LEARN the bible and the facts of Christianity before you decide to write off God. You think becuase you google a verse fom the bible, you can interpret it and know what you are talking about. First of all, some of you have info from the OLD testament, BEFORE Jesus die so our sins can be forgiven..... These rules you have come up with are so crazy.....do your research! You can use birth control, among many other things when you are married as long as it consential! YOu are only suposedto abstain from sex UNTIL you get maried....and being homosexual, whether you are a man OR woman is a sin!

In the original Greek, 1st Cor. 7:1 says, "It is good for a man not to touch a woman." The Gree word used for "touch" in this passage means to touch so as to arouse. If you read the entiire chapter Christian husbands and wives are commanded NOT to deprive one another of sexual relations.
The Bible, in Genesis, in chapters one and two, provides God's blueprint for marriage and for His good gift of sex. The gift is only to be enjoyed within a marriage between a man and a woman. There are no exceptions suggested, such as homosexual partnerships. From Genesis on, the Bible praises the marriage of a man and a woman, but it speaks only negatively of homosexual behavior whenever it is mentioned.

The Old Testament states, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable" (Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13). The New Testament agrees, listing "homosexual offenders" among a list of people who "will not inherit the kingdom of God" unless they are cleansed through Christ (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Other passages are Genesis, chapter 19; Romans 1:18-32; 1 Timothy 1:8-11; Jude, verse 7. However, it is important to note that the Bible speaks only of homosexual behavior (which would include lust—choosing to fantasize about behavior), not unchosen feelings. God will not judge a Christian guilty for his or her involuntary feelings.

Sometimes it is said that the Bible does not record any words of Jesus about homosexuality, and therefore it must be acceptable to God. However, the Bible does not record sayings of Jesus about a number of other specific sins either. When people asked Jesus about marriage, He told them to remember what Genesis said about God's plan for marriage (Matthew 19:1-12). So, in this sense, Jesus did have something to say about homosexual partnerships. If people had asked Him, He would have told them to remember what God said about marriage in Genesis. God only blessed sex within the committed marriage relationship of a man and a woman.

Some have tried to reinterpret what the Bible says, in an effort to approve homosexual relationships. For a reply to such efforts, read "Straight and Narrow" by Thomas Schmidt or "A Strong Delusion" by Joe Dallas. These books are available through most Christian bookstores or through Regeneration Books, P. O. Box 9830, Baltimore, Maryland 21284, telephone: (410) 661-4337.

Because they are brainwashed and cannot think for themselves. Ask as many Christians as you want and I'll bet you ten bucks over half of them say either "because God says it's a sin" or "because the bible condems it."

True, if everyone WERE gay the human race would die out but not EVERYONE is gay. Its a minority, really.

There is no logical reason. Just people letting religion and the "ewwww'' factor cloud their judgement. They should stop thinking about what Homosexuals are doing behind closed doors, perverts.

The bible does not mention homosexuality.
At the time it was written, the word did not even exist. Many people were gay on bi, enjoyed it openly and no one thought or said anything about it.
Homophobia is a recent mental disease. Some people need the Bible to replace a normal thought process so they come up with their own interpretation of the scripture to support their homophobic views. Homophobia mostly occurs in people that are insecure about their own sexuality and don't know how to deal with the homosexual feelings they sometime experience. Homophobic should seek psychiatric help instead of coming up with invented sin stories...

I am a Christian, and I am okay with homosexuality.....but I just don't agree with it. I have nothing against people being Gay,bisexual, or lesbian.

I don't think homosexuality is any more of a sin than another. In God's eyes every sin is the same. And I personally don't think Christians, or anyone for that matter should judge people based on their sexual orientation, God is the only one who can judge us.

I don't think that homosexuality is a sin, but the bible says that it is wrong for man to "spill his seed." In other words, it is wrong for man to ejaculate anywhere other than in a place that will cause procreation (such as the vagina). Thus, masturbation, sodomy, and homosexuality are sins in the eyes of those who follow the bible. You do have a good point though. Celibacy would not allow for procreation.
