NOT all...some are perfectly lovely, but just this (and atheist/gay bashing gan be a little grating at times)

[quote 17/18/19Corinthians blah blah
paragraph after paragraph of cut and paste from the bible, who honestly reads this?]

sorry to be so childish but read the bible and then give it back, at least in your own words.
just becauseyour post is longest doesnt make it the most valid....

some hypocracy and a little 'you'll burn in hell' (basicly if you arent christian) smugness...

and then end with...
peace be with you

thats quite hypocritical, no? at last have the decency to admit that you aren't wishing peace on anyone really

Am more than happy to hear your own viewpoint from your religious standpoint, happily welcome it in fact.

I know this could be seen as a little inflamitory, but I'm not claiming to spread love and peace in one breath and then condeming ppl I dont agree with in another

I'm not gay or an atheist.
I just like a nice debate about existance and belief.

I agree... I immediately thumbs down the cut and pastes to minimize the answer. I will not read that stuff.. it is meaningless here (to me).

I really like this question for a few reasons. First, I see hypocrisy on Y!A daily and in the outside world and they play on each other so wonderfully. Clipping and pasting is worthless if one is not going to explain how the answer is relevant in their lives and how it applies to the question at hand. Scripture is great, but its teachings are empty if the clip and paster does not follow the 'scripture of choice' they have posted.
Second, I may not agree with some of the postings but I leave the judgments up to the more qualified. It is funny in some cases because the clip and paster may just be after the highly adorned two points. What a pay off?
Third, Y!A Peace for me comes in the form of a solid, well thought out answer to a question. Smugness takes the form of arrogance (aka vanity). Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for.

I think most of us quote from the Bible extensively because, for us, it is the final authority. Not much we can change about that. ; )

I don't agree with the whole telling someone they will burn in hell because we don't know that. And we're not supposed to judge or condemn. That's not our job and never will be. All we're supposed to do is share what Christ has done in OUR lives and live accordingly. Only God can look upon the heart and know. I would imagine there are going to be some interesting additions in Heaven. : )

And, boy! I sure hope I don't come off as smug. I am a sinner. And when I end my posts with "Have a great day!" I really do mean it. I like happy! : )

Have a great day!

Maybe you should read the scripture they post, because even if you disagree about their God or the Bible, there usually is some truth in it, or it helps you to understand their belief in what they are sharing with you.

I think you are mistaking smugness as their confidence in what they believe. The intent is not a "holier than you" kind of thing. Most Christians will tell you they are no different than you. The only difference is having God in their lives.

Is it hypocritical to wish you peace? Though you may not agree with what they have to say, that is the intent of their heart. If their message is disturbing to you, dwell on what it is, not the person who shares it with you. They have found their peace through what they have shared.

OK, as a Christian should I change my position for this forum?
I think not. But I seldom quote the Bible.

My problem as to this is the people that put a name onto me and others because of my beliefs.

Do I accept homosexuality? No. Will anyone ever change my mind? No. Does that make me intolerant? No. Do I hate homosexuals? No. Will I ever be pro-choice? No.

The problem is the loaded questions that contain absolutes like, if I do not accept something then I have a name assigned to me. Would I, if I was not a Christian, accept homosexuality? No. Abortion? No. People just can't accept that some people, no matter what they believe as far as religion, think somethings are just wrong. I have even seen people use the name "racist" as to those that do not think homosexuality is right. Little over-board, don't you think?

As a Christian Preacher I shy away from quoting scripture, especially when I'm talking with someone that doesn't believe in the authority of the Bible.
There are times when I will quote a Bible verse but then I also try to give a common sense explanation as to how it applies today.
Whenever I sign off, so to speak, I always ask God to bless that person with the knowledge of God and Jesus Christ.
It may be that I don't agree with a persons stance on a subject but I defend their right to make the choices they have.
may the Lord Bless You.

I consider myself a Christian. I believe in God and try my best to be a good, moral person. I do not say I'm born-again. I am not perfect, not by a long shot. I am learning to be a better person.

I am not a bible qouter. Sometimes i do cut and paste phrases that explain questions being asked, but other times I can be rude to other being rude toward the Christian religion. Just like all Athiests are not bad people, same rule goes for christians. For every person who laughs at the bible and believes whole heartedly that we evolved, or whatever, I get annoyed. I get annoyed because I think their belief is as over- the- top as they think my view is. If they poke fun at my belief, i will do the same to them.

Everyone needs to stop thinking Christians walk around like a living bible. Simply believing in God, and knowing your moral obligations is a Christian. I pray, I have a personal relationship with God, but I am human. I sin, I sin often, and then I realize what i did wrong and ask for forgiveness and change. I have hobbies just like you.....I do fitness competitions, i play the guitar, i like music like you, I am a mother......WE ARE NORMAL!! I am sick of everyone thinking they are too cool for God and we are wierdos.

To the person who asked this question, if I come across mean, it is not directed toword you, alot of other people have been very rude to me for not reason at all, so i guess this post has voiced some of that frustration. It would be nice if we ALL were not so critical of eachother, but this is one heated debate that will never be resolved.

If I have to quote the book, I try to keep it to that exact line or more. Cause it can be tiring to read so much. I myself don't tell people they better listen or are doomed to hell. For I myself use to walk the atheist path and I know that "line" will actually keep you away from the faith that much longer.

Once that "line" wasn't thrown in my face for at least 10 yrs....THEN I started to do my own homework and research. Today I am a believer.

But like the book says....many will try to deceive you. Just cause someone says they are "christian" or what not, does not make them to be one automatically. The actions of their life is what speaks the christian side....not a title.

It's less res source intensive to quote (always) the same few lines of scripture instead of formulating a personal opinion. It's one of the reason of the success of fundies religions.
You don't need to think, just say that you have faith and quote in a few lines someone else"s opinion.
No need to study, debate, compare, peer review, demonstrate etc...

If I choose to answer a religious question I will include my reference. My opinion is just my opinion so I refer to the higher authority of the written Word of God.

The box below says "Know your source? List it here:"

so I do.
