It's natural for me to reject the things that instill fear inside of me. I find it hard to love the things i fear.

The simple fact is that there are things to be feared in this life, and according to the living God, in the after life. Those who write about these things are concerned for and care about other people who are unaware it or simply don't care. Neither they, their God, or their religion are trying to "enslave" them with fear... they just want to warn them because of love. It is your right to decide for your self, and live with the consequences. If the subject bothers you so much, what about it is really affecting you. The messenger or the message? Your question addresses both. If you really do not want to hear it, then go somewhere besides the R&S section.

Because fear has a high response rate.
Most animals have one of three responses to fear.
1. Flight
2. Fight
3. Submission

For the religions who use this tactic they hope for either 1 or 3
With #1 the problem goes away, leaving you it's land and possessions to heavy to carry.
With #2 you gain converts to use agaisnt the next people you come in contact with

fear is control - mind control - thats all it is.

Fear is the best way to control people and get them to do what you want.

Just look at all the fear Bush & Co have spread over the last 7 years. All the rules that now control what you can do and say and read and think and act. Nothing to do with religion (not obviously anyway) but it is still cult like bahviour.

Our whole culture and humans in general use fear as a living tool all the time. Examples; A person running for office uses fear of their competition in order to raise funds, Common man fears loosing his electricity or gas so he pays someone to provide it, We live behind locked doors because we are afraid of being robbed. So religion uses fear to enlist members and keep members in line and punish those who see through this fear tactic. It is the easiest and quickest way to grow or keep your religious power and money. Simple.

I think it is this kind of promotion of religion that gives it a bad name. God is not about fear, but about love. If you believe in GOd then you believe that you will be forgiven for your sins (which is just a word, that should have no more connotation than"wrong doing") and you should find that you have something to turn to when your life is hard, and something to be thankful to when your life is good.
God should be a source of strength and comfort, NOT of fear and dread

Ask the Christians. They have been successfully doing this for quite some time. It seems to work for them.
p.s. sorry that so many people cannot decipher a typo. Guess they must be perfect! Thumbs up to those of us who were clever enough to figure it out!

Because they don't realize it is the goodness of God that leads people to repentance - not fear.

I pray that you will meet someone who actually has the love of God in their heart. It shines out into their life and you can't help but see God in everything they do and say. That's what draws people to Christ, not fear of a hell fire.

To me, it seems like a ploy. To tell people of what they should be a afraid of is a rhetorical weapon, in my opinion, and this method brings people together especially when they are promised good things if they do.
