How do you view those Muslims who are unnaccepting of the Theory of Evolution, if there is justification in the Qur'an for Evolution, is there justification against it also?

Also, most Muslims on Yahoo Answers appear to be very educated and intelligent, even the Muslims who do not believe in Evolution. What is motivating such intelligent Muslims to use Yahoo Answers, specifically, the Religion and Spirituality Category? Are there debates within Modern Islam that play out here that I don't see?

Adam and Eve were the first humans created, no doubt, but as for how other species came to be, it's not specified, leaving possibility for evolution.

There is no doubt that there is sience and knowledge in the holy Qur'an, it is said that God has created everything from (or with according to precise arabic translation) water, and you know that water is a vital composition in every living cell, the human body has over 70% water in it. I come to Y!A to have fun and meet open minded people, I used to take things seriously with debating christians and bigots, but i've taken things easier now, i want to learn how people with different beliefs think, how they stand on matters.

The Quran doesn't exactly say evolution happened but there are many verses in it about creation supporting it. There is the story of Adam and Eve in islam also and a lot of information about the story actually came from the Bible. For example, muslims teach that Eve came from the rib of Adam but the Quran doesn't actually say this--its only in the Bible. Many things were wrongly interpreted before but as time passes, more of the Quran is understood. The Quran says the first man was created from dirt. This was interpreted as the same way as the bible. But in another verse it says: "We fashioned man from the quintessence of clay." Surah Al Muminun verse 11. Many scholars interpret this by saying we came from the earth and our body was made from its chemical components. Many people reject this new interpretation and want to stick with the old one. However most people who know what evolution is do support it. My parents do not and it would be a bad idea mentioning this around them.
I dont know about the intelligent muslims :P but usually I come here to try to clear misconceptions toward islam.

Peace Unto You:
Thanks for your kind talk :-) I've been a member in here since a long time. I usually come to R&S section mostly to answer questions regrading Islam from Muslims and non-Muslims. Islam asks us to be moderate, and accept others, and asks us to "debate with the best possible manner". People who doesn't accept evolution just don't understand it correctly, and think that it contradicts with the existence of God, but it doesn't. Most Muslims, though, are "Theistic Evolutionists" like myself,

--Islam and science:
Islam supports education and science, and encourages people to use their minds in order to reach to the truth in many verses. Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said: "Seeking knowledge is an OBLIGATION on every Muslim man and Muslim woman".

**Concerning evolution:
I mostly believe in evolution, and I believe that animals, plants & microorganisms did evolve through the years. Nevertheless, I don't believe that humans evolved from animals, since The Noble Qur'an speaks clearly about Adam & Eve (Which quite similar to the Christian story, only slightly different). I believe that the Qur'an actually has PROOF for evolution and the big bang:
There's a verse that says: "And We made everything alive from water".
A superficial look at this verse says that all creatures need water, which is true, but I believe it's deeper than that. It's known that the earliest life forms began in the water, and continued from there. Nevertheless, the usage of "eveything" implies that humans aren't with this category, since in many other verses, Qur'an made it clear that humans are in a higher place than animals, but again humans were made with mud, which is a wet dirt.
Also this, which may imply that we're more evolved than Adam:
71: 14 "And We created you in stages"
**Big bang:
There is a verse that says: "And We are rapidly expanding it (Heavens, space)".
And this is the basic idea of the big bang. Nevertheless, I believe that God made it happen.
*** Earth's Age:
Qur'an did not say that the earth was 6,000 years, and I refuse the Christian thinking in this matter. Earth IS billions of years old. The Qur'an talked about Adam's creation, but unlike the Bible, we believe that there was a period of time between earth's creation and Adam's creation. We do believe that the earth was inhabitated by animals and plants for time, then Adam came along, which, in a way, agrees with science.

I hope I answered your questions, and thanks again for it.

Good question. My boyfriend and I were talking about evolution yesterday. He is completely against it. No ifs or buts.
I, on the other hand, like to keep an open mind. I was excited to see that the Quran "may" support the theory of evolution. Very interesting.
Anyways, why do I come here? To defend Muslims on this site. Also, it can be quite entertaining and right now I'm on semester break here in Germany with no money and I need something to do.

Holy Quran encourages its readers to gain knowledge, ponder and analyse. Muslims are supposed to follow the truth no matter where its coming from because Islam is not afraid of losing its followers. On the other hand blind folded followers have little value according to teachings of Islam.

Regarding evolution, it is a theory that has kept many minds engaged for a long time. It must also be analysed critically and if has some or many merits, they must be appreciated.

For instance, Holy Quran refers to two concepts regarding creations: Khalq and Amr, meaning creation and divine will. Perhaps this may be understood as a human body with all its magnifcience walks and talks as long as there is divine will associated with it. So, the divine will makes a creation worthwhile, active and alive. Unfortunately, there is no room for divine will in theory of natural selection.

Sorry, but according to Muslims, it is extreme form of absurdity to beleive that there is no creator and no divine will existing behind all this accurately calculated life. There may have been evolution but not the way it is explained according to natural selection. A hodge podge can never creat anything meaningful, beautiful and purposeful no matter haw many billions of years it happens. There has to be a driving force behind, and that is the will of the Almighty. To Him we will return.

Islam is not against Science. Quran tells us to seek knowledge. I do believe in some aspects of evolution, how our bodies adapt to the changing environments or create new antibodies for new viruses.

Muslims are required to do good and make a contribution to Islam. Many of us do that by clearing the many misconceptions people have over here. You can say that this is Jihad for us because we are making an effort to do the right thing.

even regardless of the undeniable fact that i'm a solid Christian, i do no longer think of that God meant for us to take each and each word interior the Bible actually. i think Genesis is an evidence of "the certainty that he started out all of it" in words we human beings could comprehend on the time it became into written. human beings are subsequently a great way God's crowning success. no count if or no longer we are genetically comparable to the ape or different animals isn't proper in any respect. as an occasion....Henry Ford built his first vehicle some years in the past...yet Fords with an engine, 4 wheels, headlights and so on. are nonetheless being made at present regardless of the incontrovertible fact that they seem totally diverse from that unique motor vehicle. It would not make experience that as quickly as a common layout works, which you will possibly throw it away and initiate with some thing totally diverse. i think that God designed the universe and set the attitude of introduction in action. He planned it... no count if or no longer that plan became into and is analogous to the theory of evolution i don't comprehend. i'm no longer God. regardless of the incontrovertible fact that, it would make experience that he might use a similar common shape...and in basic terms upload advancements to it by using time. The six day difficulty for introduction is additionally theory-approximately in this way. I could ask myself...WHY...might God take as long as six days to do each little thing whilst he became into able to doing each little thing in considered one of our miliseconds if he so chosen? the respond could be that this became into the least perplexing way for HIM to describe to us the common approaches of his plan. ...step by skill of step. on the time of early guy...they slightly understood the assumption-approximately an afternoon...no longer to point billions of years. To me, this would not shrink God's ability in any way. My in basic terms argument with some people who're what we call "evolutionists" is whilst they seem to have the opinion...that the theory immediately skill that there is not any God that had something to do with it. One would not inevitably disqualify the different.

I believe in an type of Evolution of species because God says in the Quran that he creates things in stages. He also states that humans first came from water, and he first created us, then shaped us. Moreover, many Muslims analyze the story of Adam and Eve as a description of the Evolution of the human species. When mankind moved from instinctial to an abstract and questioning way of thinking which includes making clothing for our nakedness. I look at things from a extra literally perception, more in scientific and allegorical terms. Example, The "Garden," is the early (animalistic) mind set of the human beings. When we were "kicked" out, God gave us conquest over our own desires and needs thus exposing us to hurt and awareness of pain and struggle. Another example, God said he would lead the way with "the burining sword," my intellect spraks that God is referring to the evolution of civilation and technolgy. He is leading the technolgical age.

There are a lot of details in the Quran that are very intellectual. It makes us smarter, and Islam being a thinking religion makes you want to think and read more. Moreover, God encourages us over and over again in the Quran to seek knowledge to fully appreciate his creation to gain more faith.

For example this passage:

[24:45] And GOD created every living creature from water. Some of them walk on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some walk on four. GOD creates whatever He wills. GOD is Omnipotent.

God is actually describing the evolution of sea creatures to land dwellers. Stating that life on Earth started in the waters.
